I think one reason for why I have been enjoying my time at Zuzalu so much is that it has a super unusually high concentration of what @visakanv.com calls Friendly Ambitious Nerds. Especially rare for the long-term, co-living setting (2 months). twitter.com/visakanv/status/1515563…

The smaller scale, while still having enough of the people around that I actually want to connect with. Maybe depends on how comfortable your personality is with shouting into the endless internet void that is twitter? I find that that can be at times an intimidating feeling.

I like their apparent approach of splitting out moderation into a layer separate from the client though. It sets minimal censorship as a default for client behavior, because users can always be more restrictive with their opt-in filtering.

Right, and bsky could also change their mind on what they are willing to host. But as far as I understand - as long as there is at least one service willing to host a user's content, and one client that can be used by the user's audience to access that content, you can escape censorship.

The protocol itself being open is really a base requirement for decentralized social media. But sounds like even bsky the app will only "remove illegal content and label objectionable material" and then leave it to the (user controlled) moderation layer to do further filtering. Sounds promising!

And I don’t even like this section of CT that farcaster is catering to here. Empirically, within a week of bluesky hype, it has overtaken farcaster for me in "absolute number of people whose content I want to see in my feed". Over there it’s basically you and DC and 2-3 others. Here it’s already 20+
