Wrapped up @localfirstconf.com in a summery Berlin beer garden yesterday. Always a special crowd to me because it’s where @jazz.tools got born 2 years ago. And where else can you hang out with Martin Kleppmann, Dan Ingalls and people who only use Mistral models at the same place?

People have been yapping about Malleable Software forever now. I think we’re finally actually entering its golden age - loving the “medley of demos” around Patchwork by @pvh.ca and @inkandswitch.com at @localfirstconf.com

Lost a lot of respect for Kelley today. I think it’s simultaneously true that 1) OSS owes you nothing 2) slop is bad 3) devtool maintainers should have service attitude First, you should be very mistrustful of your own “you’re holding it wrong” statements. (contd.)

For his master's thesis, @siidorow.dev interviewed me about how @jazz.tools fits into the landscape of sync engines and local-first DBs. Now that it's published (congrats!) I can say that it is *the* most rigorous & precisely categorized overview of our field! PDF: aaltodoc.aalto.fi/server/api/c...

Eventually, AI will prove “too useful to be hated” to the masses. In the meantime, early adopters can prove two extremely valuable things: 1) having a head start on the skill of working with AI 2) proving independence from prevalent ideology For women, 2) should count x2 x.com/visakanv/st...

Beyond goblins, gpt 5.5 in codex is also just a poetic little quirk chungus. The phrases it invents during debugging make for a great album track list: 1. Chasing vibes in the fog 2. Yesterday’s ghost 3. The elephant in the hallway 4. Sneaky little liar 5. Reluctant morsels (contd.)

Building @jazz.tools v2 in public, Ep 3 Main learning: ground your LLMs in your concrete problem, build jigs, religiously optimize code iteration speed. The last couple days were more perf work, driven by a specific target that a commercial use case gave us.

Given our realisation that *actually, @jazz_tools is a database* (see QT)... ...we're hosting another meetup in SF this Wednesday! (RSVP below!) Thinking of Jazz as a DB begs the question: how does it fit into the stack? bsky.app/profile/jaz...

Sync engines are an incremental improvement to the "centralised server + client" model - the minimal possible step towards the real-time nature of apps today. But we can do much better 🧵
Quoted tweet by James Cowling: ""Local first" is a nice goal towards low latency and offline support but in practice the source of truth for almost any app that stores important data is the server. "Sync engines" are a solid architectural model that bridges state on the client and state on the server, without dealing with polling, inconsistency, and all the distributed systems bs that should be a relic of the past. They are how everyone will interact with backends in the future. We see @convex_dev as "react for backends" but there are an emerging group of great platforms in this space."

The coolest thing was being able to bring the whole team and really have time to help each new adopter. If you missed out on that, we’re still around for two days - and our Discord is the next best thing: we’re all builders ourselves and would love to hear about what you’re building.

@localfirstconf.com is off to a fantastic start, the number of new people is mind blowing. For us at @jazz.tools, today was all about getting hands-on and helping people building cool stuff with Jazz - and handing out our first vibe coding certifications!

Megathread of everything we're announcing for @jazz.tools at @localfirstconf.com It's been a hell of a year in the best sense and I can't wait to share what we've been cooking. (And this doesn't even include our "one more thing" 🤫) Stay tuned as I expand on details over the next couple days!

Nothing better than telling people to edit just their package.json for a 12x perf improvement. I still think we can do better for this particular hot path internally. But their app’s “screen of everything” *cold start* is now bottlenecked by React & the DOM! bsky.app/profile/jaz...

Security is the most subtle challenge in full-stack apps. Many devs still re-invent the wheel, building access control with low-level tools like RLS (or worse, ad-hoc backend code) 😱 The security design of @jazz.tools is a godsend for vibe coders (and experienced devs!) 🧵
Tweet by Danial Asaria reading: I just hacked multiple @lovable_dev 'top launched' sites Wait—what? In less time than it took me to finish my lunch (47 mins), I extracted from live production apps: 💰Personal debt amounts 🏠Home Addresses 🗝️API keys (admin access) 🔥Spicy Prompts Screenshots in thread 🧵 Not as a hacker - as a curious dev with 15 lines of Python. This isn't a breach story (I reported it), this is a wake-up call. Be cautious which 'vibe coder' you trust with your personal data.

These excellent illustrations by Adam Nyberg (on X) are a chance to explain how @jazz.tools goes further than a "sync engine": - By also making permissions local-first, further abstracting your business logic into something declarative - By using an app-agnostic sync & storage server

Many in the Future of Coding community have been wondering… What is the scrappiest fiddle of them all? (cc @todepond.com) The answer is: the one that doesn’t even exist yet! This is your reminder that you can submit non-existent demos to Future of Coding London! You still have almost a month!

People often ask me what’s so special about Future of Coding London. “The people” is one obvious answer. “The demos” is where it’s really at. (thread…)

This is a pre-announcement announcement: @todepond.com and I will temporarily take over hosting Future of Coding London from the legendary @maggieappleton.com (for reasons outlined in her latest blog post) We’re still finding a first date in Feb/Mar, but you can already submit demos 👇

What I love about Bluesky is the hackability of it. Like someone created this account with followers you’ll probably want to unfollow/block and they’re neatly collected, just a button press away

jazz.tools is so easy you can start building something with it *while* listening to the podcast about it. Imagine how easy it will be once we have docs!!
A YouTube comment saying "Super interesting. Just finished listening and meanwhile trying Jazz for the first time.
I can believe it work first try. This is amazing 🎉
Really an awesome piece of tech."
