October read #1 Injustice for All by J.A. Jance This was published in 1986! Got this because I needed to read a crime novel set in a time before social media, cellphones, personal computers, and widespread use of DNA testing.

Statement on AI:
If you want to use Al to write your responses and creative exercises, that's your loss. I won't go hunting you down. And I don't really care if you trick me into thinking it's your work. If that's the type of writer and thinker you want to be, then go for it. Good luck.

I have made the decision to withdraw as a support act for Ed Sheeran's 'The Loop' North American Tour.

I don't take the decision lightly. Ed has been a friend to me and has changed my life, I could never thank him enough for this.

But as Irish people we know all too well about genocide, forced famine and violent occupation.

I cannot stand by and allow billionaires to use their position of power to silence the rightful voices of those who speak up against Israeli genocide and who highlight the savage murder of children.
I would lose all respect for myself to carry on as normal.

I need to be true to myself and my ancestors who resisted colonisation, and fought for a freedom that I enjoy today in Ireland.

Redoing my manuscript for publication to add this, because why not. #FuckAI
Screenshot of my working document (Pages for iPad) where I format my manuscript for ebook:

Author’s note:

Generative AI and large language model (LLM) technologies are tools of fascism. They are built and trained on stolen copyrighted works, their data centers destroy the lives of mostly marginalized communities by stealing their water and electricity and emit intolerable levels of noise, and they produce soulless, ugly materials. Studies have shown their use makes the person using it dumber, and have contributed greatly—sometimes sadly even fatally—to the degradation of users’ mental health. Currently, in my country, the Philippines, the government is stealing ancestral and farming lands to sell to American AI companies to build even more data centers to feed their AI beast. These data centers use up millions of gallons of drinking water daily while entire communities go without clean water to live.
I don’t use AI or LLM software in any part of my writing or publishing process. Not for outlining, not for worldbuilding, not for anything. I don’t even use Google for my search anymore, using instead other alternative search engines that lets me turn off AI results. This is not hard, and I lovingly urge my fellow writers and creatives to make the extra effort to structure a work process free of LLMs.
This is all to say that this novel has been lovingly crafted by my own brain and hands. I hope you enjoy it <3
And fuck AI.

AFM Statement on the Passing of Dolly Parton
Today, the entire community of professional musicians mourns the loss of an irreplaceable icon and a generous heart: Dolly Parton.
While the world knows her as a global superstar and philanthropist, we at the American Federation of Musicians of the US & Canada and Local 257 (Nashville Musicians Association) knew her as a steadfast champion for working musicians. Dolly was always very generous with her time and her money. Her extensive charitable work was never about public perception-she gave simply because she truly cared, always doing everything the right way to make sure that people were taken care of. She overcame every obstacle that came her way and broke down many barriers for women in the music business. Her influence went far beyond the boundaries of country music, but she never lost track of who she was and her values.
"Before she was an icon, Dolly was a working musician," says Tino Gagliardi, AFM International President. "Dolly never forgot the musicians who helped bring her music to life. By standing firm for solidarity and treating every player with dignity, she elevated our entire profession."
"Throughout her 58 years as a proud member in good standing of Local 257, she set the gold standard for supporting her band and fellow musicians. Dolly and her team consistently filed AFM union contracts for gigs, sessions, and tours, ensuring that the bands, singers, and studio musicians working alongside her received the benefits of union membership," says Dave Pomeroy, President Local 257.
We extend our deepest condolences to her family, bandmates, and millions of fans.
Rest in peace, Dolly. Thank you for the music and the solidarity.

Freestyle crocheting a sleeve for my journal. I decided I want to be able to tell which notebook is inside, so we’re doing granny stitches. Using milk cotton because I figured the sleeve should be soft but not too stretchy. 🧶

It sits on top of the notebook I’m making it for, a thick B6 hardcover blue notebook. The sleeve has grown enough that I can fit it to the notebook to check if the size is right.
