(a) The top left inset shows plate boundaries around the South American plate, the boxed area is then shown in more detail with the Altiplano and Puna plateaus outlined and labelled (R.H. Sillitoe & G. Rodríguez 2023), and contour lines showing the depth of the subducting slab (G.P. Hayes et al. 2018). Arrows indicate plate motion and the Central and Southern Andean Volcanic Zones (CAVZ and SAVZ) are labelled. The rectangle labelled "Study area" on the main map outlines the study area shown in (b) where a geologic map (J. Clavero et al. 2012; J.A. Naranjo et al. 2019) is overlain on the study area with faults marked by solid lines and the main peaks in the area labelled (P.E. Baker et al. 1987).
