Turns out I wasn't so wrong. bsky.app/profile/anot.... This is also from @deadline.com: deadline.com/2026/10/bbc-... Maybe Matt could look at the stuff he's cutting and what it can do?
In a second comment seen by Deadline, another insider said: “Is it not time for the BBC to fully reject generative AI? I think Matt’s comments about AI Dr Who and news presenters haven’t been helpful. We’re not a content machine like Netflix and should surely focus on doing things better (not just faster).” The question received more than 30 upvotes.

Brittin joked during the town hall that he “got in trouble” for his Doctor Who comments, which generated headlines in national newspapers. He also expanded on his thinking, stressing that human-led creativity would always be at the heart of the BBC’s mission.

“I was just trying to make the point: Look at the pace of change and what this stuff can do. It’s really important. I’ve spent a lot of time on this, as you can imagine,” he explained.

Mame (Casino Theatre, A) is a bad film, a fact which should not only come as no surprise to those who know the past history of Patfick Dennis s awful aunt, but will also sound like stale news to those who appear in the film, for they get through their chores as valiantly as possible without seeming to believe in any of it. My problem here is all too plain to see. There is a species of female, usually American but occasion- ally British (remember Graham Greene's travels recently with one of his lady relatives?) whose monstrous eccentricities are intended to make her endearing and irresistible, but which always make me_ feel that there may after all be something to be said for vivi- section.
As it happens, Herman's mastery of the old dixieland trick in his Broadway scores has caused unmusical critics to assume he can do nothing else. In fact, when they all described Mame as a one-song show they were quite right, only the song they were referring to was the wrong one. The title-song of Mame is a quaint double-think on Hello Dolly, and its cause in the movie is not helped by some choreography sO atrocious that before the end of its hopelessly protracted sequence it actually becomes funny. But I He Walked Into My Life, flawed though it may be by one or two excesses of schmaltz by Herman the lyricist, offers strong evidence of melodic inventive- ness without which no musical is worth the candle, or indeed anything else. The question is, do we want to sit through rather more than two hours of sentimental archness just to savour the pleasantries of a thirty-two bar torch-song? We all have to find our own answer to the question.
Benny Green

Things I was frightened of as a child: 1 The benign Little Blue Engine would jump off the tracks & chase me along the platform. 2 Dogs. I was told one jumped in my pram enough that I "remembered" it. 3 Weed & House, in Bill & Ben. 4 Mr. Turnip, on Whirligig. 5 The Four Feather Falls title sequence.
The Little Blue Engine Annual c. 1955, portraying a steam locomotive with a smiley face and children happily waving at it. An absolute favourite of mine during the day; a terrifying prospect as I shut my eyes to go to sleep. Muriel Young & Howard Williams, presenters of Tuesday Rendezvous on ITV, with 2 puppets, Ollie Beak and Fred Barker, the only dog that never worried me in my childhood. Top: Bill & Ben, Flowerpot Men and their constant creepy companion, Little Weed.
Bottom: The gardener's abode "..and I think the little house knew something about it; don't you?".Top: Mr Turnip, a puppet presenter of "Whirligig" on BBC children's TV c.1956.
