I think it was a honeybee! I doubt it was a wasp or hornet. The wasps are pretty shy and the hornets aren’t in the front.

Booked the cheapest seats and checked a shared bag to get us to Seattle for a celebration of life. We would have had to pay to select our seats and we ended up with exit row and first row of coach. Guess nobody wanted to pony up for them and we lucked out. Feels like a hack.

When I read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, the disregard for black lives, including children, was shocking and appalling. It’s profoundly fucked that nothing has changed.

ATK had me boil the fingerlings in a water/salt/baking soda, place cut-side up to steam on a kitchen towel, toss with olive oil and pepper, place cut aside down on a sheet pan pre-heated at 500 degrees with more olive oil, and roast. Best crisped roasted potatoes I’ve made.

One other thing about high density living is that it’s actually a hassle to own a car. It’s expensive. Parking is shit. Driving is stressful. I used to Metro to get to DCA and rent a car if I needed one for IKEA or something.

This is incredible and I hope this caring soul tells the story just exactly like this to HR.
Am I wrong for removing a wheelchair user from an elevator when I thought it might snap?
Context: I grew up in a small town and only ever really used elevators at the mall. I now live in a big city and take one every day at work.
Me and a bunch of other people, including a wheelchair user, were waiting to use the elevator at my work and all got on at once. A sign came on in red lights saying that we were over the elevator's weight capacity and the doors stated open. Since I mostly know about elevators from movies before this year, my first thought was that this was an emergency where the cable could snap.
I pride myselt in caring for others and my first reaction was to assist the person who was least able to help themselves by removing her from danger. I gently pushed her off and the warning light went off and the doors closed, carrying the rest of us all to the floors we punched in.
She was very upset about this and reported me to HR.
They called me in on Monday and had me take the week off and I explained everything. They said they'll talk to me this following Monday.
I feel like I might be about to get fired for trying to be a good Samaritan. Am I in the wrong?

In a new Truth Social post, Trump explains why he should have received the Nobel Peace Prize—writing entirely in the voice of a man being forcibly removed from a Cheesecake Factory. Really unbecoming of a FIFA Peace Prize laureate.
Screenshot of a long Truth Social post from Donald Trump dated 9 October 2026. The full thing is here https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/117414533410378018. It's too long for alt text, but begins:

******
This is the woman who received the Nobel Peace Prize over the Great United States of America, whose Representative, ME, settled eight Wars, and many other things. I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else! In fact, to the best of my knowledge, no one ever heard of her other than the fact that she, very obviously, hates Israel. I don’t know what the woman has done. I settled 8 Wars, with letters being sent from every President and Prime Minister from the countries that I helped to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and I’m about to settle, or win, two more, Iran and, Russia/Ukraine. They’re both happening at breakneck speed but, forget them, it’s the 8 that I’ve already settled, any one of which, in particular, Pakistan and India, would be far more than necessary to win the Nobel Prize. In actuality, I should have won 8 Nobel Peace Prizes, not just 1. The 8 Wars are:

Cambodia and Thailand
Kosovo and Serbia
The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda
Pakistan and India
Israel and Iran
Egypt and Ethiopia
Armenia and Azerbaijan
Israel and Hamas

Additionally, I stopped Iran from having a Nuclear Weapon, and blowing up the entire Middle East and, ultimately, far beyond! I saved more lives than anyone in History and, as Maria Corina Machado, a truly fine person, stated to the Media when she gave me her Nobel Prize of last year, “Donald Trump settled many Wars, and deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more than any person that has ever received it.” Based on my record of PEACE, a record like no one else has ever achieved, I agree! I got back all of the hostages in Israel, including the final 28, both living and dead, and worked with Hamas to do it — Nobody believed this was possible! I removed the World’s Evil Dictator, Nicolas Maduro, from Ve…

My scaldingly hot take is that by claiming that he'll televise an execution, Pete Hegseth is actually making people reckon with the fact that state-sanctioned murder is being carried out in their name. No bloodless lethal injection that they can sweep under the rug.

For regular people, I feel like taxing the rich is like bundled services for us. The pain of moving their whole life, even if they can pay dozens of people to do it, is so bothersome that they give up and just pay the tax. It's like me paying for 4 bundled services that include 3 I don't want.

Both sort of! It's really more that the worst that happens if I put my hat in the ring for a job is that it doesn't work out - they say no or I don't like the job/people. I'm definitely more likely to keep pushing if someone tells me no and I think that's the wrong answer. :)

My best friend and I spent *a lot* of time at the library and the local parks as kids. I feel like part of the issue is less an access to places and more the notion that unsupervised children are not in danger solely because they are unsupervised.
