Yes, I think I got yelled at in The Other Place too, for that discussion, for saying similarly. If the whole present-opening and correct-social-responses thing is hellish for the child (sensory overwhelm, social overload, stress of how much time it will take, etc), what on earth is it for?

'Autism is an invisible disability' said no autistic person who was bullied at school, ever. All this is, of course, is professionals blaming autistic people for masking (a survival mechanism) when what they actually mean is they don't have an up to date idea of what autism is or looks like.

We asked Diabetes UK for advice re autism. They said some families might be lucky & find a way to ask an 'Integrated Care Board' to review their loved one's funding. Goodness knows how, & goodness knows how long it would take. Or whether it would work. In the meantime, what are people to do?

About 30,000 autistic ppl in the UK have Type 2 Diabetes, aren't on insulin, & use wearable monitors (CGMs). These save lives for those who don't spot low-sugar events / can't cope with endless painful finger prick tests each day etc. The NHS has removed funding. Now, have to pay ~ £1500/yr. /

Perhaps next year they can set up a small room somewhere for the Gender Critical women, and the big hall can be filled with all the other women? Far more sensible than "We don't want to be near Trans women/hear from them, so no-one else should either", which seems to be the current gambit?

Autism acceptance isn't about pretending everything is fine if it isn't. It means understanding why autistic people do things, not blaming them (or your autistic self) when it's hard, or when you have competing needs. Ideally, it also means cherishing joy harder. (So much harder.) #neurodiversity

Your periodic reminder that “diets to treat autism” are BS. Autism is not a disease. Also many autistic kids (& adults) have GI issues, food sensory issues, &/or dietary allergies. Sometimes specific diets help THOSE ISSUES, and when autistic people feel better, they ACT like they feel better. 1/2
