I also enjoyed the educational insights into Armenian culture, which helped bring the story to life and gave it depth and characterization. I also liked the Chicago setting since I was just there and it was fun recognizing a lot of the background!

The first person pov is an unusual choice from my experience for the genre but it totally works and I thought the main character's arc was both believable and empathetic.

4.75/5. A lot of the sapphic romances I've read have been dramatic romances. I think this is the first legitimate romantic comedy I've read in the genre and it was absolutely hilarious! I was laughing out loud and boisterously throughout the book.

000

Annabel Lee Journey 🏳️‍⚧️🎲👗 @annlee14.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

Perhaps the best part is that we learn from the author's note at the end that the story is loosely inspired by real historical queer people and relationships in 1800's England and the setting is loosely inspired by places that really existed.

4/5 - Fun setup in this one about two regency-era gothic novelists who turn from rivals to lovers in a delightful sapphic romance. There's a bit of murder mystery and supernatural haunting thrown in, which adds to the story rather than distracts from it.

It's funny that despite the big thing that makes us different, trans women and trans men really do have a lot in common as far as our experiences go. Our lives are lived to a certain point on a precipice of uncertainty and fear and doubt.

5/5 - This is an incredibly lovely book! As an English major, I enjoyed the verse, the way the verse was thoughtfully positioned on the page, and the rhythm of the verse. As a trans person, the story itself is personally meaningful and I could emphasize so much with the characters.
