Sweet Jesus. So concerned about stopping people right-clicking your public collection of images that you put the whole lot in a private DRM provider that goes under, and the whole lot is fucked. Sweet. Jesus.

I will never get over this drawing of Danielsson's of a snake from Tomba dell'Orco. It looks so pleased with itself. It's being held by a fearsome demon, but its little face is saying 'helloooo'. #epigraphy #etruscan #tarquinia
Ink drawing on illustration board of the head and upper body of a snake. Beside the snake is an Etruscan inscription. The snake has a very pleased facial expression.

Last night I had a nightmare about Linked Open Data. Totally normal thing to have nightmares about.

Everyone's favourite little guy (actually very large guy), the Volsinian cippus shaped like a warrior's head. Ink drawing by O.A. Danielsson, based on Perali. The inscription is CIE 5000 = ET Vs 1.113. The illustration board has yellowed from the envelope it's been kept in. #etruscan

Conservation-wise, rubbings are a menace, but I also find them really pretty. This one (of CIE 4722 = ET Cl 1.459) is made by Hermann Degering, who was a librarian from Berlin who helped Carl Pauli with copying inscriptions during a trip to Italy in 1897.

Need to also share this! Another tracing, this one likely from December 1885 in Corneto (now Tarquinia). CIE 5507 = ET Ta 1.132. Danielsson usually used pencil for his tracings, but here, he's used crayon.
Tracing of an Etruscan inscription. The tracing is made with crayon. There are notes in ink in one corner.

The digitisation of Danielsson's squeezes are done, and we're on to the tracings! This is a tracing of CIE 1900 = ET Cl 1.1386, made on 9 March 1886.

I managed to break both the tibia and fibula of my left leg last week. I’ve had surgery and spent a few nights in hospital, but now I’ve been discharged. I’m being very well taken care of by my family. It’s going to be a long recovery but the doctors are very optimistic.

Hand-coloured photograph of a cinerary urn (CIE 2901 = ET Cl 1.2470), sent to Carl Pauli by his friend, collaborator and eventual adversary Wilhelm Deecke in 1881. Pauli's labels are visible on the mount. Preserved in Uppsala University Library. #etruscanepigraphy #etruscan #etruscan

An early version of the illustration of the Laris Pulenas inscription for CIE. Made by one Thulin (still unidentified) for Olof August Danielsson. Preserved in the archive of O.A. Danielsson at Uppsala University Library. #etruscans #epigraphy #archives

Hello everyone! It might take a bit of time for me to get the hang of this, but in the future there will be plenty of #Classics and #Etruscan -related stuff.
