Q3 Most of these stories have women protagonists, and they're so incredibly diverse, with some hiding streaks of unpleasantness. How do you handle writing flawed characters? #WomenWritersNet #AuthorInterview @ainegreaney.bsky.social

A2 I think we all have themes we circle back to, consciously or not. I definitely write about identity and slightly off-kilter relationships - even when I don't mean to. Yours sounds like a really engaging through-line. Do you see yourself in the women you've written about? #WomenWritersNet

A4 I constantly have to give myself permission to write - that it is as valid as other people's work, and it is proper work. Even with novels published, it still feels a bit of an indulgence #WomenWritersNet

A2 I started 'writing as a career' in 2010 - with a brand new baby. The two things fitted well, if precariously. Gradually, I built up a reputation, and now all my work is writing-ish. But I'd say that took 5or 6 years to get there #WomenWritersNet

A3 It's not about waiting to be inspired to write - it's a job like any other! Sometimes fun, sometimes a slog but needs time putting in. And the reality is the other-writing stuff pays most of the bills so prioritising is hard #WomenWritersNet

A5 #WomenWritersNet We need more older women demonstrating that romance and intimacy is still relevant at 50, 60, 70+. I think slowly, we are seeing female protagonists in this vein

“The City of Dundee is full of dragons. In the Murraygate, you’ll find a green statue prowling… Atop the spire of St Andrew’s church near the Wellgate, a dragon watches the city moving below, and the crest of Dundee bears two dragons whose tails are intertwined” publicartdundee.org/listing/the-...
Dundee’s dragon sculpture, commissioned from Alastair Smart who died before being able to carry out the work. Tony Morrow adapted Alastair’s original design to create the final work. The photo shows a bronze dragon, hunched and coiled, its body low to the ground and its head raised on the end of a long neck. Ragged wings are folded across its back and its long tail wraps itself in a spiral around a tall bronze pole. The statue is in a pedestrian precinct, with trees in the background. The photo is taken at night, and the statue is illuminated by bright green lights shining up from ground level.
