As a country, we are nowhere near equipped, resilient or mature enough to absorb this fundamental shift in end of life care. Palliative and social care are a shambles- we must fund and fix those first without adding further pressure to a broken system. It's not a fair ask of the medical profession.

Bl##dy Americans. Have to win at everything. Not even content for Liz Truss to retain her gold medal for "Most kamikaze mismanagement of an economy ever". It was all she had left!

What about the penguins? I think you should announce a penguin liberation day reverse tariff.

Anne Grey Lee @annegray-lee.bsky.social · 03/04/2025
The other point to make with these 'reciprocal' (haha) tariffs, is that for most countries Trump's tariffs around half those charged to US, eg EU tariffs on US are 39% but Trump has only imposed 20% on nasty EU. On that basis the 10% for 10% quid pro quo on UK is relatively extra punitive.

Island home only to penguins hit by tariffs - and other things you may have missed on 'Liberation Day'
The EU hates "beautiful" American beef, Donald Trump won't stand for plastic eggs and penguins face higher costs to sell goods to the US: some of the things you might have missed on Liberation Day.

Anyone noticed that Trump is quite the fan of a market moving update?

Just about. Very much on life support still. They closed gap in Florida but didn't take those house seats despite big effort. Must remember that forwarded swathes of US electorate they're getting the radical reform they voted for.

I watched. It was great. Will be booking a trip to Stromboli with my yr 9 son. Essential GCSE geography watching....and a welcome change from binge watching house for family tv viewing. I told him he should be taking notes. I got an eye roll.

Mark Lowen from the BBC has just been deported from Turkey after covering the protest marches. It really is the Spring March of the dictators globally isn't it! Who's going to stop them and how? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

My friend is an NHS sexual health consultant. She is seeing more & more antibiotic resistant infections. At the same time they're seeing budget cuts to services meaning they don't even have enough clinicians to lead clinics and are having to run nurse led clinics. This is a crisis in the making.

Such an important article and so true. Politicians need to grasp and understand this. You won't get economic growth without removing the 100k tax cliff.

We absolutely won’t tolerate leaks, they said before looping in a journalist to top secret war plans. Feel safe? Me neither, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde

U Turn on the NI tax. Incentivise business to invest. You're cutting jobs into a tightening employment market, knocking consumer confidence. Tax profit not costs. Don't let big tech and Internet giants off the tax hook.

From a political expediency perspective, isn't there an argument that shutdown right now would hand Trump a helpful 'Heimous Dems' distracting blame narrative that would take spotlight off him on economy and Lone Skum's DOGE destruction?

Where's the benefit to the North? This will only exacerbate further the North South Divide. Only firm mention of North is Old Trafford Development..whose season ticket holders are Londoners! Heathrow will take yrs and cost double. This feels like you've already run out of ideas.

I expect next Yr they'll announce they're merging the Today programme with 5 live next. All they're missing is the cab driver phone ins. Thoughtful, serious, not too noisy or too many funnies - that's how I like to ease into the day with a cup of tea

You can't compare the two. A farm is a critical business that feeds the nation, a house is but bricks & mortar. You can't hop in & out of farming- like setting up a cafe. I understand the perceived lack of meritocracy in a system of inherited wealth but you can't measure farming so simplistically.
