C'est juste... il a fallu mettre la fierté de côté et crois-moi, pour une personne dont la fierté est intrinsèque, ça me paraît juste irréel. L'Afrique du Sud a prouvé que sans vainqueur ou perdant, le dialogue et le pardon sauvent. ( Cf Mr Desmond Tutu). Mais Kate, je te comprends vraiment .. ❤️💜💙 😘

Je sais que c'est impossible pour vous actuellement, et avec le gouvernement de la Russie actuelle. Pourtant, s'entendre après 1945 a été possible entre deux pays qui se déchiraient depuis longtemps : la France et l'Allemagne. La recherche mutuelle de dialogue, le pardon, font parfois l'impossible.

Tu sais, je pense que ce soldat était sincère et voulait bien faire -son geste venait certainement d'une volonté d'être généreux. Mais ma grand-mère était trop fière pour accepter quoi que ce soit de l'occupant.

Merci beaucoup, Kate, pour tes belles paroles C'est vrai. Je me souviens de quelqu'un de doux, très proche de la terre, très fier aussi. Un jour un soldat Allemand, ému, avait offert une motte de beurre à l'un de mes oncles, 4 ans. Ma grand-mère a obligé mon oncle, en larmes, à la rendre au soldat.

Si tu veux, ce qui m'ennuie, c'est cette mode d'être reconnaissant pour tout, tout le temps. Je me méfie des modes. Le risque de louer pour nos propres limites, c'est de trouver que tout va bien et du coup de tomber dans une autre forme d'idolâtrie, d'auto - idôlatrie, en quelque sorte.

Traverser une tentation et une épreuve spirituelle n'ont rien à voir. Dieu ne va jamais utiliser vos défauts contre vous. Une tentation cherche à vous proposer un faux bonheur, vous coupant des autres, et de Dieu. Une épreuve va vous donner le sentiment de traverser le feu seul, et de grandir 🔥

Yes, that whole generation was brave. What makes her special is the way she took life simply, even turning bombings into some kind of joke or game for her family. She stays an example, being her grand-daughter means something. Brittany is a place where women don't get bossed around 🙂

#ancestors This is my grand-mother, on my mother's side, in 1935. Weak women are not a concept in my family. Born 1910, she raised 4 kids all by herself in France during WW2 with close to nothing during 4 years. More in ALT

My grand-father was taken prisonner in 1940.
My mom, who was 6 at the time, told me they had one flour sack, and had to go through one whole winter just with that, making porridge with milk or plain water in 1941.
Her husband's wages were not paid, she had to scrape by.
When they were under bombings ( usually the Britsh Aircraft, as they lived in Brittany), she would tell all kids that hiding in the bomb shelter was a game they played, and kept singing and joking.
So my mom recalls no trauma from the bombings.
When my grand-father came back from Germany, regular life resumed.
He often complained.
One evening, he complained about the dinner.
She was a quiet woman.
She got hold of both the table's legs, and lifted them slowly.
Everything started crashing down: tablecloth, plates, cutlery, tureen, water jar, dinner, everything.
Once it was all on the floor, she put the table legs back down, got up, put her coat, her hat, took her purse and said :
"I don't know what you guys are eating, but I'm going to the restaurant."

My grand-father never complained again.
