If you stuck a microphone in an intorvert’s head, you’d find it’s anything but quiet. That’s why we’re confused when people say we’re quiet, cos on the inside we’re definitely not. Am I right?!

Sometimes we say something & expect people to react a certain way. When they react differently, we get disappointed. Being conscious of our expectations in real time can help us avoid disappointment.

1️⃣-2️⃣-3️⃣-4️⃣-5️⃣-6️⃣ seconds... ... is how long it takes for the fight or flight chemicals in your body to start to dissipate. Before you do something you might regret, count to 6 while exhaling to return to a rational state of mind. This way you won’t be a slave to your internal alarm.

To be self-aware - & reap all associated benefits - requires you to actually take notice of how you react and spot patterns of behaviour. Noticing when your mood plummets is a great place to start. Make a note on your phone & once a week read through your list. Can you see any repetition?

if you're introverted it's like others will speak up before you, limiting how much others will notice you.. For everyone to remember you & hear your voice, turn up early enough to ask everyone how they are, if they've enjoyed any recent success, & if they've read the agenda.

For us introverts, there's a constant conflict between spending time with others and spending time in our own heads. No surprise which one has the greatest pull!

When you’re in a new location, your brain works is on full alert to keep you safe. This is why you can’t sleep when you’re away & have to stay in a hotel. Your brain is busy scanning for anything unusual - like noisy lifts or people laughing in the street - in order to keep you safe.

You’ll grow more by navigating away from discomfort and discontent than by being pulled by any positive feelings.

How introverts & extroverts differ when stressed: 😑 Introverts shut down They need time to let the ideas in their head settle. 🤬 Extroverts need to get it off their chest They’ll vent to another person or hit out, eg by punching the air. Under stress we are our most authentic to conserve energy.

What percentage of rushing can you attribute to fear?

Increase your charm by avoiding WHY for questions and using HOW COME wherever possible. The reason? Many people hear WHY & feel defensive as they grew up hearing when in trouble: Why are you late? Why haven’t you done it? Avoid WHY & people won’t get triggered, & therefore feel safe with you.

Not hungry before a big event? Don’t force yourself to eat: the fight-flight-freeze reflex suppresses the appetite so it can focus energy on your muscles instead, in case you need to run away. Your appetite will return once you feel safe again.

Another example of a world biased towards introversion: have spent all afternoon searching for an image library for a video of 2 male friends in a deep conversation - as introverts do. The commercial world overlooks introverts as an economic base, portraying a world where introverts are absent.

Whether consciously or subconsciously, when we speak we expect to see the reaction that we would give. We feel disappointed when we don’t get it, but that doesn’t mean our message was badly received. It just means the reaction was different.

Conversations between introverts are slower, punctuated with pauses to digest the exchange so far and to calibrate thoughts and ideas for the next ‘round’. This is the style of interaction introverts long for.

With tighter edits - often achieved with AI - the public hears much less natural conversation. How will this affect how people speak going forward?

Want to engage an introvert? Ask them what their speciality subject is l, and then get them to tell you their favourite piece of trivia from it. Keep asking follow up questions and you’ll have them fully engaged.

People say introverts are quiet. Which surprises us as the inside of our head is loud with thoughts and ideas.

Instead of asking 'WHY...?' ask 'HOW COME...?' WHY often puts people on the defensive. Watch how people react more openly when your questions begin ‘How come you … ?’

It's not that introverts like being at home, it's that they like being in their heads - which is easiest to do at home.

The thing people forget about introversion is it’s a preference. There will be times when you’ll have to extrovert yourself, but it won’t feel natural. A bit like if you injured your writing hand & had to get by with your other one. You’d cope but it would be much harder and draining for you.

Knowing what you don’t want is as important as knowing what you do want, sometimes even more so. The goal is to shape a life with less of what you don’t want and more of what you do want. Remember this you make a major life decision: is this ratio of want / don’t want improving in my favour?

Your caveman brain watches over you night & day looking out for danger. When it spots a threat, it triggers the fight flight freeze reflex to prep your muscles in case you need to fight or run away. You know this feeling as nerves. In reality it’s your inner security guard telling you it’s ready.

Forget about trying to impress strangers. Instead, think about making them feel safe in your presence: • a gentle smile • friendly eye contact • use their name That will endear them more to you than trying to impress them ever will.

Ever noticed how doubt arrives just when you're about to do something new? That's not a coincidence. Your brain interprets new situations as potential danger. Doubt is its way of making you pause & reconsider. But resist letting it stall you. Proceed with caution, step by step to calm your brain.

Food for thought: The more habits you incorporate into your day, the more energy you save. The more you live life on autopilot, the more in a rut life can get.

Memories comprise the senses plus emotions. We remember our mistakes more than non-mistakes because of associated emotions. Remember this when cringing over past errors. Try & recall all the times you carried out the same and the result turned out well.

The ability to make people feel at ease is one of the most valuable professional skills there is. It doesn't appear on any job description.

Being fully transparent with others affords them full agency to make the best decision for themselves. Withholding information from them deprives them of this.

Introverts: Establish your boundaries promptly and clearly to train others how to treat you. You cannot do it by telepathy.

There are people who constantly want to be right with others. And there are people who allow others to be right - whether they are or not. Only one approach forges relationships.

Forget about impressing people. The stranger you're meeting isn't judging how impressive you are. Their brain is first questioning: "Is this person a threat?" That's why we wave and shake hands - ancient signals for "I carry no weapons." Your first move: help them feel at ease.

Of course introverts can be as confident as extroverts. They just express it differently. While extroverts are more vocal, introverts' confidence radiates from non-verbal choices like posture, appearance and hand gestures.

Anna Seabourne @annaseabo.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
To sound confident: ✅ DO • Speak in short sentences • Breathe into your belly between sentences. • Project your voice down at the end of each sentence ❌ DON'T • Rush • Keep talking to fill the silence. • Breathe into your chest - it raises your voice, making it weaker.

Introverts like to pause occasionally to digest what they’ve said or heard. Extroverts can talk and talk and talk without pause, which can be exhausting. Engineer a break by asking them a question. Just ask it - don’t wait for a pause.

When introverts make a strong first impression, it’s automatically assumed they’ll make a valuable contribution. All you have to do is share your thoughts with a confident voice.

Food for thought: Introverts are expert at protecting their energy. They’re reluctant to get involved with anything where they can’t predict how much energy it will take. What opportunities might they miss out on as a consequences?

Your brain 🧠 communicates faster with feelings than with words. Pay attention the next time you’ve got a ‘funny feeling’. Chances are your brain 🧠 is alerting of a possible danger. ⚠️

A question starting 'why?' can put people on the defensive >> 'Why were you late?' Instead, replace why with 'how come...?' or 'what caused you...?' >> 'How come you were late? >> 'What caused you to be late?' And watch how more openly people answer.

Tag questions - isn't it, won't it, aren't they - are an easy hack to get others to agree with you & build rapport. Therefore, saying “it's cold isn't it?” over “it's cold” is more effective at getting the conversation started.
