New research (Vol. 122) discusses self-reported menstrual cycle length shows fair agreement. Self-reported and calculated cycle length agreed more closely when biological variability was considered. Findings support self-reported cycle length for epidemiologic research.

New publication analyzes healthy low-carb diets and all-cause mortality in adults. Healthy low-carb diets were linked to lower mortality, especially in adults with chronic disease. Carbohydrate quality mattered; unhealthy low-carb diets were not linked to lower mortality.

New paper analyzes depressive symptoms and metabolic syndrome across Korea and the US Higher PHQ-9 scores were associated with greater odds of metabolic syndrome in both countries PHQ-9 related MetS differences were greater in females, middle-aged adults, & lower-income groups

A new publication from vol. 121 analyzes cancer screening among sexual minority men in Japan. In Japan, sexual minority men were less likely to plan screening, though participation was similar. The gap was in intention among the unscreened — a key target for inclusive outreach.

A newly published study from @pridestudy.org @dianatordoff.bsky.social examines how discrimination, social support, and community environment affect the mental health of LGBTQIA+ parents. Community-level factors had a stronger association with mental health in LGBTQIA+ parents than non-parents.

A recent Norwegian study shows that self-reported use of antihypertensive & lipid-lowering medications is generally valid at the population level. Misclassification may occur amid older adults & individuals w/ cognitive impairment, highlighting needs for careful interpretation.

How are neighbourhood built environments and BMI in older adults associated? A publication found: Living in higher-density neighbourhoods were associated with lower body weight. Changes to the neighbourhood built environment were not associated with changes in BMI over time.

New data has shown that 8% of adults have had cancer genetic testing! Among untested adults, 52% knew testing could show future cancer risk and 41% were interested in testing. 93% of adults said knowing whether they were at risk would change their health care decisions.

Researchers have analyzed how race/ethnicity predicts depression in young adults. A newly published article in Vol. 118 of Annals of Epidemiology has found that race/ethnicity (esp. with OMB groups) poorly predict depression while socioeconomic status is crucial for prediction.

📢NEW STUDY Maternal asthma in pregnancy can be associated with later puberty in sons Boys born to mothers w/ asthma had slightly later pubertal development. No associations were observed among daughters, & findings were not explained by either birth weight or childhood asthma.
