This is such a cool look! I love it! 😍

Anna Frey @annafreyvt.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

Oh my gosh, I think I need to find more horror to read. 😂 I actually preferred this one over The Fisherman. The "feeling" of horror was there early on with it really exploding at the last, I'd say, quarter of the book.

The cover of Silvia Moreno-Garcia's Mexican Gothic.

Hmm, accurately yes, but I wondered if I could have made it "badder" to fit the prompt. 🤔

There were definitely bits in the book that showed it could get dark later on, but it was quite the tonal shift when it did happen. Thankfully, I'd not long ago read a purely dark fantasy trilogy so it didn't really bother me much and I still enjoyed it.

Eva Evergreen and the cursed witch: Loved it! The second in the duoligy and it was a blast to read and I, once again for this series, read all its 300+ pages in under 24 hours! This felt a little heavier with its theme of what parents would do for their children. I'm not crying! 😭

The Shattered King: I enjoyed this one way too much for a £1 charity shop find! 😂 It has a very typical fantasy romance plot and tends towards dark fantasy near the end, but isn't too harsh or graphic. I learnt that it's a duoligy so I might be picking up the other one soon...

I went on a bit of a chill holiday and read some books while I was there~ Top two I finished and the bottom one I'm only a little way into. 🙂‍↕️

It's one of the few visual novels that had me hooked the WHOLE TIME! And I think also that I got all the achievements for too.

Thought I'd do the thing I've been seeing a lot of. Sorted in no particular order. 🙂‍↕️

That is Mort finished! For some reason, this one took me a little longer to get into, though by the end I did conclude that I enjoyed it. 🙂‍↕️ Death with cats is the cutest thing! 🥹

Forgot to mention that I started Mort! Might move away from discworld a bit after this one, but am still very much enjoying them all!

Sleepy? Huh. For me, it makes me feel cosy, which makes me happy, which makes me less irritable when things inevitably go wrong with what I'm working on. 😂

Why do some of my coworkers think it's odd when I have hot chocolate in the morning, but they get their coffee and that's normal? Are they not both just processed beans with milk and sugar? 🤔

I absolutely DEVOURED this book! 😂 Maybe it was partly due to finding kinship with the main character in regards to my own experiences growing up. Was not expecting the slightly, er, "horror" elements though! Still, I very much enjoyed it. 🙂‍↕️

Back to more Terry Pratchett. With each book I hear the humour develops further so I'm looking forward to that! The word play of the title is already great!

I get that! Don't get me started on all the books too! 😭

The formatting of this book was great to get back into non-fiction! There were so many fun facts in here mixed with personal opinions too which made for a lovely, fun mix to read~ Now I just want to read even more about space through the eyes of wonder. 🤩

Yay! Layton release date! New Kirby looks cute too! I've never played a Kirby game before, so maybe this is my sign to try it out?

Time to start on the Non-fiction! I had read An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth and really enjoyed it, so when I saw this one in the charity shop, I knew I had to pick it up!

I enjoyed this enough to read it to the end, but can't say it is something I would recommend. I unfortunately didn't get to liking any of the characters even at the end... And the magic in the world only made a proper appearance in the last quarter of the book too! 😭

I'm not sure what to make of this one so far... The ambience feels nice, but I'm honestly not interested much in any of the characters and I'm over halfway through... Hmm...

My reading is staying on theme this time with A Dark and Drowning Tide, my second step into romantasy.

The cover to the book A Dark and Drowning Tide features a dark body of water covered with lily pads. Two women, one with shaggy black hair and the other with long white hair, both wearing button up shirts looking at a long haired woman's head peaking out of the depths.

I think I like horror in book form! Yay, a way I can actually enjoy this genre without being jumpscared! The story within a story threw me off a bit, but overall, I enjoyed it? In a way you can enjoy reading something unsettling. Now I can start looking more at the horror section of the bookshop.

Pro tip: Don't read 100+ pages of horror before bed... On a windy night... Where the through breeze keeps creaking the doors. 😱

Starting my first, full length horror book which was recommended in my discord! Reading this while the evenings are still light to not scare myself too much. 😅

Next up, The Light Fantastic! I hear this is the only direct continuation in the Discworld books, so it makes sense to jump straight into it.

Recently I started, and have now finished, The Colour of Magic! It took a bit for me to get into it, but I definitely enjoyed it by the end! I'm interested to see just how... Confusing? Whimsical? The discworld series can get!

It's crazy how the series went from a typical fantasy setting, to an industrial revolution, to now post apocalyptic in only 3 generations of Avatar!
