"All witches are selfish, the Queen had said. But Tiffany’s Third Thoughts said: Then turn selfishness into a weapon! Make all things yours! Make other lives and dreams and hopes yours! Protect them! Save them! Bring them into the sheepfold! Walk the gale for them! Keep away the wolf! My dreams! My brother! My family! My land! My world! How dare you try to take these things, because they are mine!

Reposting this as images with text in replies because I got blocked for it by the obvious disinfo plant claiming Alberta is a "red state."
Screenshot of 2 posts: "Red" is the Liberal colour in Canada, my friend. When we say a riding "goes red" we mean it went Liberal, and when a province "goes red" it means it has a Liberal Premier. And like... I'm not unsympathetic to translating that for the Yanks but you have to know other Canadians are going to nitpick.

You're giving off serious vibes of being a disinfo plant by refusing to acknowledge that "red" and "blue" have existing definitions, nearly universally understood in this country, and that they don't align with the colours in the US. It's a huge red flag that you're not who you claim to be.Screenshot of post: Given the foreign influence we KNOW IS HAPPENING, anybody who claims to be from AB but uses US political shorthand is immediately suspect of being a plant. Any Canadian would know this and not pretend otherwise. You'd have a good reason, at least.

The first batch of trilliums In planted in 2023 are replicating! Don't worry, the garlic mustard in the corner was carefully yeeted after the photo.

The cutest photo of me and my baby sister ever to exist I think. The pony's name was Edgar and he was really a cart pony and didn't like riders much, but while a cantankerous old fart in general he was tolerant of little ones. He lived to be almost 30.
Grainy photo of a photo taken somewhere around 1999. A preteen girl in jean shorts and a t-shirt holds the rope of a brown pony's halter. A toddler girl is sitting on the pony's back with a huge grin.

Really loving the representative sample of topics in my currently reading non-fic pile. Don't talk to me about how I keep several books going at once. I don't know. My kid's active pile fills her bookshelf.
A stack of books. The Rule Book / Stenros & Montola (game design); 52 Ways to Reconcile / Robertson (landback etc); A Natural History of Empty Lots / Brown AND Kew's Gardener's Companion to Medicinal Plants (naturalism/botany); Folklore / Davies & Holbrook (like it says on the tin). Topped by a box of cat-themed correspondence cards designed by Stasia Burrington.

I keep finding these canine tracks walking leisurely the secret path through the strawberry patch behind my house. Same path the neighborhood outdoor cats like, but never at the same time. Best guess is a coyote, or a domestic dog loose in the neighborhood for over a month that I haven't seen.
Two sets of animal tracks in the snow. On the right, degraded, a set from a domestic cat. On the left, fresh, an unidentified canine with a calm gait pattern.

I'm saying you should look it up! It's really interesting but those two trees are a great example of two completely divergent kinds of plant growing into something most people recognize as a tree. Below is a cross section of a cut down palm. What do you notice?

I'm struggling to alt text this so it makes sense, but doing my best!

Screenshot of a bluesky feed. Top post from @dov.bsky.social quoting @pyramidmaster.bsky.social. Quoted post reads: "I've read a history book. this isn't new. if anything the only new part is we're threatening to do our normally racialized war crimes/crimes against humanity to white people now. who was letting America speak before"
Dov's comment: "Greenlanders aren't white"

Below, in a reply, @luxalptraum.com says: "Ah but everyone knows the real victims of the conquest of Greenland are the Danes"

I'm not reposting it directly because that's just silly, but this? Is AI. Pretty much everything on the account that posted it is either AI or unsourced screenshots.
A screenshot of an AI video. A black frame includes static text: ICE CHASES PROTESTOR (sic) IN MINNESOTA" and inside the frame a video is displayed in which many figures in what look like ICE uniforms are chasing someone, dressed in a fur cape and viking-style horned helmet, who is rolling down the street in what appears to be a bathtub mounted on giant rollerskate wheels. The video includes a ticker tape that says "LIVE, POVART, 4.06 PHM, POLICE CHASE: BATHTUB VIKING, 15 ICE AGENTS IN PURSUIT - PROTESTER AT LARGE." It is, to be clear, fake.

I haven't posted a #teenyart in a while mostly because my teeny book ran out of pages. But I'm back to practicing! Today's art is this dark-eyed junco on an perch that I don't intend to finish even though I can see it's not done. Because #teenyart is about practice, not perfection.

These two photos, sequentially on my feed.
Screenshot of bluesky post by @dimcheff.wtf, bluesky elder, reposted by ae. Post reads: "happy boxing day to all who celebrate"

Below text is a photo of a smallish grey tabby cat sitting in an Amazon shipping box. The cat gazes sweetly into a light source out of frame to the upper right. Screenshot of a bluesky post from @faineg.bsky.social, bluesky elder, reposted by Seanan McGuire. Text reads: have a merry Christmas or else.

Below text is an illustration of a stylized ostrich on a snow-scene background, wearing a red and white Santa hat and an expression as if it is shouting angrily at something out of frame to the upper right (same as the kitten in the other photo!). Lettering above the ostrich reads "have a Merry Christmas or I will kick out your organs."

I am finding sharing a house with a cat to be truly delightful in ways that I didn't even realize I'd been denying myself, so that's been fun.

You can have this photo of my recently adopted cat Astrid for free, though.
A small black cat with a white patch under her chin and very big yellow eyes sits on a dark grey tile floor. A pink soft-sided carrier sits beside her, because she has only just arrived in her forever home.

The carrot that will get us through the winter (the rest of the average-sized members of the last planting for scale)
One big purple carrot in the grass. This guy is enormous. Still obviously a carrot but like, the size of an average adult foot and the length of an adult thumb across. It's a monster. Nearby, a multicolored pile of normal carrots and carrot tops.

This image from tumblr sparked a discussion in my group chat in which we concluded that this image is the antithesis of the thisisfine dog.
A tumblr screenshot, credited to username zzoupz, the relevant part of which is an illustration of the Tower card in Tarot. The illustration is a fairly typical Tower design, with the addition of a human figure in the foreground, covered in blood, smiling a bit maniacally and giving a thumbs up. Text below the illustration on the card reads "Don't worry about it 👍🏻"

The grocery store within the first hour it opens is a top-tier place to start your community-oriented week. AMA. Also the construction site behind the store I went to this morning was looking shiny.

This is my point. The ICE agents won't know you called them names. Your fat friend will see you defending the confabulation of fatness and evil and will learn something about how you think of people like them. They presumably already knew you didn't like ICE. So it's just not necessary.

A small illustration in watercolour and ink of a yellow house with a red clay tile roof, a dark blue front door, and bougainvillea cascading down the facade. In front of the house is a stone path across a smooth lawn with a patch of lavender and a bird bath. To one side of the house is a small pond, and behind all of it is a forest including a huge weeping willow tree.

Teeny art of the day
A small square painting in watercolour and ink, depicting an underwater scene (is it sunken ruins or an aquarium? Undetermined). A crumbling, ivy-covered domed white building reminiscent of Oxford's Bodleian library stands next to a similarly decrepit stone tower. They are surrounded by suggestions of underwater plants, coral, and aquatic life. A monument mostly hidden in foliage suggests a mounted soldier with rifle.

#10minutemerlin made me lock my phone outside for ten minutes which is always a good thing. I'm doubtful of the meadowlark, and not convinced I heard the Killdeer or the hawk on this one even though I often do. I think the swamp sparrow is a miss, esp as that bit of audio has aircraft noise.
