Thing is, running ripgrep directly from the CLI already shows you a warning message if you run it inside a .gitignored directory! Zed could simply build off of this. (See screenshot.)
Screenshot of a terminal session. The user has searched for the string "testing" in a directory named ".venv". They have done this by invoking the command "rg testing". In this context, the directory has been added to a ".gitignore" file.

ripgrep shows the following message: "No files were searched, which means ripgrep probably applied a filter you didn't expect. Running with --debug will show why files are being skipped."

I use time blocking for this. It lets me ensure I have a few deep-work blocks during the day. It has historically worked extremely well for me, but I've recently stopped doing it because software makes it extremely hard and fiddly. Trying out a new app for this now. Hopefully this will stick 🤞🏽
Screenshot from a calendaring application showing a daily schedule. On the left you see times of the day written vertically, from 2pm to 12am. On the right you see large gray rectangles stacked vertically, each one representing an individual task. The height of the rectangle represents how long the task will take.

Tasks in this screenshot include: take a bath, chores, work on website, respond to messages, lunch, nap, write and publish a blog post, dinner, call home, chores, read A Shore Thing and/or play Unicorn Overlord and/or play Risk of Rain, walk, get ready for bed.
