I knitted this shawl almost a decade ago. I had it wrapped around Matilda (my sewing mannequin) for months until Luna decided to claw through the stitches, ruining a big chunk. This year I finally got around to frogging it and starting over. Today, it’s getting blocked.

NEW TELECOMMUNICATIONS LAW
CONTAINS PROVISIONS THAT THREATEN PRIVACY AND FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
The initiative to reform the Telecommunications and Broadcasting Act, discussed in committees in the Senate, gives the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency the power to block digital platforms, when requested by the competent authorities - undefined, in cases of noncompliance with provisions or obligations under the respective regulations applicable to them.
The current wording of the initiative would make it possible to carry out an extreme restriction on freedom of expression on the Internet without the need for a court order determining that content or action is illegal and serious to justify such a measure. The blocking of entire digital platforms is an extreme measure, similar to the closure of a radio and television station, which cannot be justified in the face of the prohibition of previous censorship established by the American Constitution and Convention on Human Rights.
In addition, Article 109 gives the Agency the power to determine the procedures, parameters or standards for blocking digital platforms, ignoring that in order for restrictions on freedom of expression to be legitimate, they must in any case be established by law, in a clear and precise manner, so that this task is for the Congress of the Union and such parameters should be contained in the law. In accordance with international standards on freedom of expression, such restrictions should be exceptional measures, defined in the law precisely and clearly, under strict criteria of suitability, necessity and proportionality.

Another troubling provision of the Act is that article 161 provides the power to federal public security and national security bodies to manufacture, market, acquire, install, carry and operate equipment that blocks, cancel or cancel signals of cell phones, radio communications or transmission of data or image, in compliance with their powers. The lack of clarity on what alleged powers are referred to, open the door for authorities to seek to carry out arbitrary restrictions on telecommunications services such as Internet blackouts - whose serious human rights effects have been widely documented.

For the past two months, I’ve been working on perfecting the shape of this cat's urn. I think I’m slowly getting the hang of it. Although the first ones for my cats were made with slabs, I find it much easier to get the shape right when working with coils. 😅 #ceramics #pottery #cats #cat
