Taiki is overreaching & jumping to a ton of conclusions despite having barely talked to Yumeka, so I was happy to see her lash out when he started getting preachy. I like Yumeka, & I'm very interested to see if Taiki has the wrong idea or if what he said hit too close to home! #BlueBox #anime

It's so nice to see Maomao and Jinshi back together! The show hits a new level when these two are around each other. It seems inevitable that Maomao will find herself back in either his direct service or the Inner Court. I love seeing Pairin call Maomao out for dodging Jinshi's advances as well!

After setting some pretty high stakes last week, it was nice to focus on a smaller, more contained mystery that called back to previous seasons. It was especially nice to be reminded of a few loose ends and possible antagonists still lurking in the shadows.

I was so proud of Minato for sticking to his guns & turning Momoka down initially. I wanted to feel bad for Momoka getting rejected when she's the only one being direct about her feelings, but lording her relationship over Koyu when she knows how Koyu feels about Minato is grade-A villain behavior!

If you've ever been curious about the Monogatari series, but are also concerned about the weirdness associated with it, I highly recommend Katanagatari. It really showcases the quality and cleverness of Nisioisin's writing and characters, without any of the aforementioned weirdness.

Magic Knight Rayearth (2026) - They don't make premieres like this anymore! (Maybe for good reason.) It was a very charming start, but the amount of exposition dump felt insane & was the 2nd biggest reminder that this is a remake, outside of the wild character designs. #MagicKnightRayearth #anime

It also suffers from a similar problem as Ascendance of a Bookworm, which I ended up loving. The entire premise is built around the death of the real Nia/Myne & her replacement by the soul of the MC. Both shows brush off these tragedies, but they never fully leave my mind while watching.

There is just too much happening here: A killer is reincarnated as an ill 4 y/o. The girl is an aristocrat in a fantasy world. Her family invented magic iPads & produces all the shows on them, she's becoming an influencer via those shows, she's also a superpowered assassin. Holy crap! Pick a lane!

In all seriousness, it is nice to see Taiki really being proactive in their relationship and seemingly being on the verge of a full confession. If Hina's heartbreak had led to more stagnation, I'm not sure how I'd have been able to continue watching.

Through it all, Miyu/Tani and their relationship served as the bedrock of this show. Their chemistry is what first drew me in and afforded Yamada/Nishi & Taira/Azuma the time to develop in such wonderful and unique ways. I'm so happy to see such a wholesome ending for them, most of all!

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed that these two never officially started dating. But I do consider them two of the most complicated, depthy characters in the cast, and seeing their budding relationship be built with such care and consideration for one another felt truly special.

I like Ryoga, I just wish the P-chan stuff was over and done with. I can root for evil obsessive people (read: Shampoo), but the skeeviness makes it tough. Ryoga and Shampoo teaming up feels like it could make for a super fun pairing. I'm surprised she didn't follow her grandmother to train him.

Almost no Jinshi this week felt a bit odd. It doesn't really feel like the same show until he and Maomao share a scene together. The locust plague befalling the kingdom offers a pretty grand-scale mystery for us to solve, so I'm very excited to see what's in store this season!

I don't know for sure, but perhaps I should let Master Jinshi know...

I am very curious where this leaves Maomao. Even given the circumstances of her birth, this makes her the daughter of a respected clan, one that Jinshi has effectively bought out of after her short time as a courtesan.

The Elusive Samurai S2 - While it was an enjoyable watch with the same lively atmosphere as S1, I don't know how much of it was ultimately necessary, especially if this is the end of the road, as the ending seemed to suggest. "Go read the manga" endings remain a peeve of mine. #TheElusiveSamurai
