Trying to get back into the habit of exercising by dragging my stationary bike in front of my computer and catching up on anime while I pedal. Started watching "Gundam Quuuuuux" or however many "u"'s it has. 2nd episode and this came into my brain:

The "Not what I'm called" meme, with Char Aznable from Gundam:
Char: "hey guys"
Foreground character pointing: "CHARRED ASSNIPPLE!"
Char: "NOT WHAT I'M CALLED"

I love this composition. It’s not particularly special, but I love it

I've heard this mentioned quite often but have never taken the trouble to look it up. Seven seasons! It must be doing something right… I'll add it to my backlog list. I'm working through JoJo's atm.

The trailer for Captivated by You doesn't give anything away — it's mentioned almost as an afterthought to the abovementioned Let's Go Karaoke. Weird. The two manga by the same author are both getting an adaptation this season; I guess I'll watch them as a pair. youtu.be/S-qnR3woNf0

Tougen Anki: Legend of the Cursed Blood seems to be using "Momotaro" and "Oni" to put a thin veneer of Japanese folklore onto a fairly standard "vampires/werewolves secretly battle through the ages" story. Looks like it will be silly exposition as an excuse for fight scenes. youtu.be/2AddvIbCrr8

Ruri Rocks is a cute-girls-doing-cute-things hobby show about finding minerals and polishing them up for jewellery… the trailer is chock full of off-putting ogling of the supervising teacher. Hopefully it's not so gross if it's a small amount spread out over full episodes. youtu.be/kdh0ucpJEH8

In Busu ni Hanataba wo., a girl with low self-esteem punches above her weight in a high school romance. Decent character designs, seems to have a sense of humour. I'll give it a few episodes to see where it goes. youtu.be/1V0YwVWAz8o

Alternative WWI with steampunkish mechs, flying jellyfish and whale blimps, and kids running around in the sky. Based on a real novel instead of a visual novel — hence the one word title, Leviathan — so maybe it will do world-building that goes beyond "it's like a crappy MMO". youtu.be/ZOE7PLkuvJM

I'm expecting this to be another bland princess fantasy set in a generic European kingdom, but some of the art (especially the kaiju and the fire and ice magic) was enough to give Secrets of the Silent Witch a go. youtu.be/0OBF29HoV4A

I'm going to try A Married Woman's Lips Taste Like Canned Chu-hai because it's a romance involving adult characters… but the moment where she grabs her breast and waves a drink in a very unsexy way is not giving me high hopes. Hopefully there is more to it. youtu.be/lWcqQNjyqkc

The trailer for See You Tomorrow at the Food Court doesn't really give away much… two girls with seemingly different outlooks on life (because one of them is a gyaru and the other has boring black hair) eat and chat after school? Surely there is more to it? But maybe not? youtu.be/caqJxV4p-KI

I quite like a food anime, but I'm not going to lie, the moment where he squirts tomato sauce on his face almost made me drop this instantly. But the odd premise (food genius and maths genius cross paths) is interesting enough that I'll give Fermat no Ryouri a go. youtu.be/e-KOoy7bXYM%60

I honestly expected a show about a young woman engineered to be some kind of superhuman assassin, with a title like "Virgin Punk", to involve… different costume and camera angles. The trailer suggests the focus will be on action rather than leering fan service. Promising! youtu.be/sXS_K_H5q9s

The Summer Hikaru Died seems visually a bit "Parasyte by Makoto Shinkai", which is probably a good thing if the CG doesn't stand out too much. If it's more of a mystery than a straight body horror show, it could be good. youtu.be/sFaO07LwAVg

The trailer for Gachiakuta immediately gave a Mad Max meets Fire Force vibe, and it turns out the mangaka worked as an assistant on Fire Force and Soul Eater, so that makes sense. The world looks interesting; hopefully it's not too derivative. youtu.be/yeRvDchyo44

Turkey! Time to Strike is hard to figure out. Is it a sports show? Or more of a slice-of-life school club deal? Either could be okay, as long as it's more than a vehicle for selling standees of colour-coded moe girls. Might give it a couple of episodes but I'm sceptical. youtu.be/v_3-I8AhdDM

Maybe I've been primed by watching the Rikuoh drama (about a tabi maker trying to make a running shoe) but I'm ready for 100 Meters. Seems like it could be Ping Pong but about competitive running. The animation looks EXCELLENT. This is probably what I'm most excited for. youtu.be/S4qDUrkoNpc

With this season's #anime winding up, and needing a distraction from the world collapsing into nuclear war, maybe I should figure out which summer shows I will check out. Here are the shows I am interested in (excluding continuing shows), based mostly on their trailers, and in no particular order.

This week’s episode of Mono brought back fond memories of learning to make soba in Japan. We took a cooking class run by a group of housewives in their suburban home. They were shocked that the husbands in our group regularly cooked dinner!
