Daysome now notifies you on iPad, when it's not on screen. When something on the day starts, like lunch or a visitor, you get the same soft chime as a notification. It's marked time sensitive, so it gets through Focus and Do Not Disturb. Tap it to go straight back to the day.

Cassiopeia Themer - Brand your Joomla site to match your identity, visually
Cassiopeia is the default template that ships with Joomla 4, 5 amd 6. Cassiopeia Themer is the Multizone extension that gives it a brand identity you can set from the Joomla admin, and then a set of commercial features on top. Recent releases have made the identity side considerably more complete, so today's post covers what it does now, what we have shipped, what the paid tiers add, and when each fits.

"Erase all content and settings" in our settings clears the PIN too. That was the instruction and it is exactly right: if it does not, the device is not reset. It is handed on with somebody's four digits still on it, the next person cannot get in.

So the sample now has a TV show, Last of the Summer Wine. Six o'clock, channel 20, weekdays only. Same thing demonstrated (a fixed point in the day that is not a meal, on a recurrence is not daily), and the channel number is genuinely useful.

Our sample data originally had pill timings in it, which is something the real family actually needs. But an app reviewer sees the sample data, and a screen with medication on it invites the question of whether this is a medical device with more stringent certification and approval requirements.

Angus Fox @angusf.ezone.co.uk · 15/09/2026
The rule runs by audience and requires careful thought. App Review Information is genuinely private to a reviewer, who needs to know why we made the choices we made. Beta App Description could be shown shown to anyone who opens TestFlight or email including the person the app is for.

Angus Fox @angusf.ezone.co.uk · 15/09/2026
Everything we had written for testers and reviewers said "dementia", repeatedly and matter-of-factly, because it was written for professionals. We were concerned it might be reachable by the person using the app, by accident. The rule now: nothing they can reach on their own device should label them

Daysome installs on an iPad that already belongs to the person it is for. Which means they will wander, alone and unframed, into the parts of that device we do not control: maybe to the TestFlight app, an invitation email, the store page. 🧵

Between things it says how much time there is. “Half an hour until tea”, in quarters and halves, the way a person says it, never “34 minutes”

Daysome is out on the App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore. It shows one person, on one tablet, what day it is, what is happening now, what is next, and what is for tea. If that would help somebody you support with cognitive difficulties we'd love you to try it.

We put the build of Daysome, our app that tells a family member what day it is, what is happening now, and what is for tea, on a £200 Amazon Fire Max 11. It ran first time. No changes, no shims, no platform code at all. That is partly a Flutter argument, but it is mostly a commercial one.

A Flutter build ran first time on an Amazon Fire Max 11. Then the real screen numbers proved our careful hedge wrong and uncovered a live layout bug.

The app stores don't let automation create the first release. Both want a human in a browser, once. Worth knowing before you spend an afternoon making a pipeline do something no API actually supports

Because we build on Flutter we shipped Android from day one, for an iPad product that nobody asked for on Android. A platform left until later accrues debt silently (a Gradle plugin two versions behind, a flag never set) then costs a week the moment somebody wants it.

Getting there took four failed pipelines, and every single one reported something other than its actual cause. That turned out to be the most useful thing we learned, and most of what we wrote up.

And links work inside it. We had hedged against there being no browser at all. They open in a constrained, almost kiosk browser that closes back to the app rather than releasing the iPad into the rest of itself. Not documented anywhere we could find.

Why it matters beyond compliance: Assistive Access survives a restart and Guided Access does not. A flat battery from somebody unplugging the iPad to vacuum leaves a Guided Access device back on its ordinary home screen. Usually unnoticed.
100
Angus Fox @angusf.ezone.co.uk · 05/09/2026
We had doubted it for a reason that seemed sound: Apple’s API is SwiftUI-shaped and Flutter renders into a plain UIViewController. It looked like it needed native work at minimum. It needs none. Reasonable doubt, completely wrong.

Angus Fox @angusf.ezone.co.uk · 05/09/2026
UISupportsFullScreenInAssistiveAccess. With it, a Flutter app is listed as optimised in the Assistive Access setup flow and runs full-screen, rather than letterboxed beneath a system back button.

Angus Fox @angusf.ezone.co.uk · 05/09/2026
Assistive Access is Apple’s iPadOS mode for people with cognitive disability. It was the largest open question in our Daysome project from the first commit until the day it was not. It is confirmed working, and it costs exactly one Info.plist key. 🧵
