If you don't want AI-assisted PRs then just don't accept those PRs and the issue is mostly (because some dumbasses will still try to submit AI PRs) solved. However, that was kind of a misinterpretation of my words. If people try to contribute to your project then of course it will affect you.

I've seen similar outrages in the Sonic modding community, where someone quickly hacked together a buggy mod and released it and it'd get featured and get a lot of views. And then people would get angry at them and claim they did it for clout. And I was like "Aren't you just jealous...?"

I mean, I also prefer quality work over vibecode of course. I just feel like someone else vibecoding a heap of trash doesn't in any way affect my own projects. So I don't understand why I should worry about those vibecoded projects. They're slop and they'll be perceived as such.

Aside from that, I feel like if people are satisfied with the quick hack job, then that part of the audience must be fine with a janky solution as long as they can at least play the game. So then spending months implementing e.g. a fancy UI is maybe misunderstanding the needs of your audience?

And then he brings up what seems to be the real reason, which bothered me a bit, namely: "they can demotivate a developer who was in the middle of creating a project that does tick the quality boxes". So basically "if someone beats me to the punch with an AI hack job I feel demotivated".

I'm not an AI proponent, but to me this thread kind of reads like you feel that only people who know how to read assembly should have the right to try making a recompilation, otherwise you feel like the value of your work is diminished because someone else can also do it...

Or you could just accept that people are able to get what they want (a somewhat playable game) faster by using AI, not feel like your work is somehow diminished by what someone else is doing with AI, and focus on making what you want to make. The goal is after all not to show off, but to have fun?
