I still cannot see what Spurs spent 150 mil on in Tonali and Savio. Mo looked good and Destiny looked good. Everyone else looked on par with an utterly crap United eleven. ManU should never win starting Bruno and Tielesmans in the same midfield or with Maguire and Shaw in defense. Not great. #coys

Btw -- pretty good sign that Pedro is the glue. Team looked lost without him after he came off.

Tonali -- solid £45 mil CDM, but, oops, cost £100 mil because Italy Fern -- helped two teams to relegation, looking for a third? Savio -- all tricks and flash, no end product, only wants ball to feet, and Citeh knew it Marmoush -- see above Mudryk -- see above, sub Ski in

Dubravka -- who cares? Senesi -- worth the money! (£0) Robbo -- defensive liability, washed, why does he start?, you get what you pay for Van Hecke -- aerial liability, not imposing, gives no offensive player a moment's hesitation Tosin -- not good enough for a rival

I better not hear one talking head suggest Spurs are building or starting to gel or whatever. Horrible showing, late and meaningless goals aside. Aimless offense, leaky defense. Absolute shambles. Not one of the signings is proving to be worthwhile.

Would love for bSky to fix their algorithms so that the Spurs feed isn't full of Spurs-hating fans of other teams. We have plenty of Spurs-hating fans of our own team, thanks.

That JPVH is not a physically strong defender has been on display for five weeks now. Invisible in the air. Pushed off the ball by 150 lbs of Jackson. Nice that he can pass, but maybe a ten could be in charge of creating, and an actual defender in charge of the defending. #cOys

...it's Villa. Good chance to see if Tosin is at the level (not sure he is). As for numbers... Pretty sure a 4-5-1 gets us an XI? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not sold on Tosin, but I'm not in JPVH either. I think JPVH isn't a strong defender (physically), gives Spurs nothing in the air, where I think they're very vulnerable, and his possession and passing talents *should* be made up for by the expensive new midfielders. Plus...

Oh man! Totally forgot Kudus. I think my brain has him permanently on the IR. Yes, in for Tel, and while I'd prefer him to stay right, Savio left, and Moosh as 10, that probably won't happen...

Kinsky Porro - Tosin - VDV - Udogie Bentacur - Tonali Savio - Marmoush - Tel Solanke The 11 I'd like to see vs Spurs. Won't happen. JPVH and Robbo will start, as will one of Bergvall or Fernandes over Tel. #coys

But play them in their positions. And when you realize you have too many wingers and too many 8s, STOP BUYING MORE OF THEM and instead buy for the positions you actually need. Maybe? Please?

Gray is neither physically fast enough nor a good enough crosser to be a RB. Marmoush is not strong enough or accurate enough to be a striker. Neither Gallagher nor Fernandes is quick enough or has the vision to be a ten. I am not saying none of them are good footballers; they all are.

Where's the direction? What is this team trying to do? They played critical minutes of the game with four wingers on the field in the attack. How do they think that's going to work? They've got Richy sitting in the stadium as a reminder of the team's dysfunctional management style. Why?

Your Angry HS Lit Teacher @angrylitteacher.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
The worst thing is, when Spurs start Gray and Robbo at fb, and no CAM, and a downgraded CB pair from last year, and the same misfiring striker from last year, and wingers they were clearly fleeced on, I sort of WANT them to lose. I want someone in charge to realize, oh, this isn't it.

I can't help but think Citeh are having a laugh at the money they're taking in on players who never reliably scored goals for them and weren't likely to do so for Spurs.

Fernandes' last two teams were relegated with him in the eleven. Not a great record for a guy currently on a team in 17th. Not to mention he has a bit of the South American hack in him.

I didn't like Tonali at Newcastle and haven't seen anything to bring me around on him or suggest he's a 100 million pound player. Signs of quality, yes, but Spurs had tidy, possessive midfielders before. What does Tonali do that Winksy or Scotty Parker didn't (besides be Italian like his gaffer)?

A growing problem with Spurs is, when you sign all Prem players, they feel like other teams' players until they've really done something for Spurs. Four games in, and they've not done enough. I have no connection to this team right now, outside of the returners.

Just not sure why Spurs are so sure that Moosh is a 9. Looks more comfortable deeper, ball at his feet, looking up. Why not play him behind Dom while Madders and Xavi are MIA? Has to be better than playing Gallagher there.

I realize I have no confidence in Spurs aerial threat and defense. No Cuti, no Paulinha, no striker... No targets? Can't quite figure out why Micky isn't an aerial warrior, and I don't expect JPVH to be one either. #coys

Strategically, I am most upset about losing Spence. Psychologically, I think losing Danso will be a blow in the dressing room. But emotionally, I am saddest that Spurs could never build the player out of Sarrboy that seemed to be in there. I hope he lights Serie A on fire. #coys

Wild that Spurs (will) have signed ten players, seven of whom could be in the starting eleven in the next two weeks, and still nobody can say with any real certainty that this has been a good window. #coys

I mean, except for the reported 75 mil they will have left over. Not that a stack of cash can score goals, but neither have Savio or Moush... Jury's out and fingers crossed, etc.

Spending money and squad building are different things. Spurs did one without the other. Come January we could see them with a stable of seven wingers and one underperforming striker. Seven holding midfielders and maybe one healthy ten. Six first team quality defenders, two of which were frees.

Your Angry HS Lit Teacher @angrylitteacher.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
It would be insane to let Danso leave. JPVH is a good player, but he's something of a luxury defender. Good on the ball, but not as solid in the tackle, in the box, or in the air. Take away the option to get stronger with Kevin and Spurs will find they miss it all too soon.

It's insane that Savio is already hurt. Whatever is happening with the Spurs medical staff needs to be figured out, because at this point, it's malpractice. And Mo didn't look ready. And there's no chance Madders is back in two weeks.

The fullback situation has to get sorted. Gray is an able deputy in a pinch, but should not be starting there in consecutive weeks. Robbo was a free. I am happy for his leadership and wisdom, but there is no way he should start over a fit Destiny. Against Elanga? Crazy to play a 34 yr old.

Marmoush looked bright, but out of position; I don't see him as a 9; hoping he could be a 10 behind Dom, as he looked able to drop to midfield and carry the ball forward in a build-up. #coys

I am at a loss as to why Spurs have started Gray and Robbo at full back. Robbo's defensive deficits are on display, including on the goal, and Pedro is performing admirably for someone well out of position, but that's not the same thing as being good or dangerous. #coys

I truly thought the end of the Levy era meant an end to the timid aspirations of accountants, but the early cash splash looks more like a knee-jerk reaction and not the sign of a coherent rebuild. Hopefully this dismal loss inspires another reaction (that isn't named Gakpo). #COYS

...Relying on a single creative player who has yet to do it at this level while crossing their fingers the only upright 10 doesn't explode at the first tackle during a cameo. Promising a big signing but actually dawdling for months to pay 37.5 mil per Prem goal for a rival's unwanted leftovers...

This loss is down to the business. No new striker or wingers, so the ball never sticks up front. Casually sold off world class talent at the back to start players who were let go by other clubs. Bought too many players in a position there was already depth, trying to fit 7 players into 2 spots...

Your Angry HS Lit Teacher @angrylitteacher.bsky.social · 16/08/2026
Shouldn't they have tried to do that BEFORE the final week of preseason? Also what about all the young players, the glut of 6s and 8s, Vicario, the absence of a back-up RB, and a healthy 10? For a team that sprinted out of the gate to sign transfers it arguably didn't need, they sure disappeared...

Spurs will be giving up valuable points at the start of the season because of messed up priorities.

I think Savinho is the more important buy, positionally and potentially, unless Kudus' return is actually imminent. And I think both options pale in comparison to the need for a quality 9, which has not been even rumored with any seriousness.

He scored a handful of goals for Liverpool when defenses had to worry about three or four much bigger threats. I don't think he will produce if he's "the guy". Again, hope I'm wrong if Spurs sign him.

I hope I am wrong, but I don't get Gakpo. Not fast or tricky enough for a winger, not enough of a creative force for a 10, not potent enough to be a 9, just not sure where he fits. Honestly reminds me of prime Dele but without the work rate or charm. #coys

No Destiny or Dom, either. Pedro still being eased back in. Kulu maybe dead? Madders not looking match fit. Spurs gonna start two free agents and an out of position player in defense, a solid but not creative midfield, a deserving Tel, the mercurial Richy, and a raffle winner from the crowd at RW.

Similarly, that's gonna be the pushback on Djed and Romero. Djed hurts, while Cuti was written on the wall, but -- combined -- they may not pay for one Savinho.

For me, it was never "that's too much" but "Why are we spending on positions with six bodies on the roster and ignoring positions where we are lacking?" Tonali for 100 mil is good business IF that is your #1 need. Was it? Does it mean Spurs can't afford the attackers they need? That's the concern.
