Annual trip to Llanwonno to see the nightjars (and midges!) Also noted were tree pipit, redpoll, whitethroat, willow warbler, jay and grasshopper warbler who only called for a few seconds but enough to positively ID it. A special place 🤩 Troellwr mawr a bach yn Llanwynno 😎

Pure joy #swifts #gwenoliaidduon A woodland walk around Castle Archdale Country Park started with a glimpse of a red squirrel and ended with screaming swifts at the Courtyard. The best.

Hot? Our wildlife is feeling it too! 🥵 Here are four ways to help your garden visitors stay cool this summer. 👇
A colourful graphic titled 'Help wildlife beat the heat' with illustrations and tips on creating natural habitats. Tips include letting grass grow long to provide cool refuge for insects, planting shrubs for shade, setting up shallow water stations for hydration, and creating muddy puddles to help nesting birds, amphibians and reptiles. The scene depicted shows a garden for wildlife, with long grass, pools of water, trailing plants and a muddy puddle set against a fence. The sun is pictured in the top right in orange hues.

With my To-do list getting longer and longer, it’s difficult to get things done when swifts are screaming in the skies, the bees and butterflies are in flight, the garden is wild and green, hungry and vocal juvenile house sparrows and starlings, magpies squabbling and insect/caterpillar spotting 🥰

This time last week I was in Linlithgow, and this was the soundtrack surrounding the accommodation. Yellowhammers (Wel: bras melyn). Such a treat. This one was just outside the bathroom window. Fair to say, still on a downer since returning! The power of birdsong eh 💛

Redstarts & Wheatears. They’re here! Early morning local walk also included chaffinches galore, linnet, whitethroat, siskin, parachuting meadow pipits, stonechat, a beautiful pale buzzard, blackcap, rattling fly-by mistle thrushes & willow warbler. And scratching sheep 🐑

More birds at Aust yesterday. A feasting fieldfare, a stunning stonechat stance, an unhurried heron, and kissing kestrels* . . . . . *they weren’t, they were just close…had to keep up the alliteration 😬

Aust’s penduline tit, 10.01.26 Literally blink and you’ll miss it. Hours of standing around but a beautiful patch to do so in the winter sun, and lots of other birds to stare at too. Also lovely to meet the like minded

An early morning ‘stand-in-the-garden-to-see-what-I-see’ in Denbighshire was worth it this morning when a male blackcap turned up, and a mistle thrush camouflaged within branches a while. Vocal blackbirds were busy, chasing, fighting, eating, and a great tit shared a repetitive, splendid song

I love the @birdsinwales.bsky.social conference. The venue, the talks, the food, the stalls, the raffle! All brilliant, da iawn! But I really enjoy the socialising. Break times are scheduled perfectly into the day to catch up, or meet new acquaintances. Annual selfie with BTO’s Gethin Jenkins-Jones!

Posts from a fallen down trellis and a photo @dramirkhangp.bsky.social shared ages ago of horizontal bird feeders in his garden is the inspiration behind these feeders I’ve just hung up. Blue tit on it in less than 10 seconds, followed by great tit, then starling minutes later. A resounding success!

I think I might start a #platformnature tag! Lots to see on a train platform. Weekend - blackbirds alarm calling. A few minutes later, a magpie appeard with a blue egg in its beak, and hid it here, in flowers right next to the railtrack. Don’t hate the predators! #itsnature
