It was so cool meeting one of my writing idols, Joanna Ho, tonight at my library's AAPI event. Joanna was so encouraging as I shared the many rejections that I received since putting my story on submission and told me to keep on going!

WNDB stands alongside over 100 grassroots and national advocacy organizations, publishers, booksellers, parent groups, and professional associations in opposition to H.R. 7661. Use the EveryLibrary action center to contact your representative(s): 📖 bit.ly/HR7661-action
Red graphic with a white note taped to the center that says “We Stand in Opposition to H.R. 7661”. Beneath the title is a subtitle that says, “A joint statement plus action items”.Statement in opposition to H.R. 7661: “The freedom to speak and to read is a fundamental principle of the United States of America. That is why we have joined together — parents, students, educators, library workers, authors, free expression advocates, booksellers, and publishers — to stand in support of our nation’s school-aged children and teens and in opposition to H.R. 7661. H.R. 7661, if passed, will compel nationwide book censorship. It confuses obscenity with identity and stigmatizes vulnerable young people, particularly trans children and teens, based on who they are. It will continue to drain funding from our already underfunded schools and libraries. And it will threaten the creativity and critical thinking that are vital to education in the U.S.”Statement in opposition to H.R. 7661: “A core principle of democracy, freedom, and liberty is that the government does not choose what people get to read and who they get to be. This country has a long history of protecting our freedoms. H.R. 7661 goes against this. Together, we say that this bill goes against the U.S. Constitution, local self-determination, access to books, and a society that is welcoming for everyone, no matter who they are. Our schools deserve better than this. Our children and teens — all of them, without exception — deserve better than this. We urge the U.S. House of Representatives to vote NO on H.R. 7661 or, better yet, to not take it up for a vote at all.”

We are not immune to what’s happening in Minnesota — and all across this nation. As 🧊 continues to terrorize and target the most vulnerable among us, we're grateful for the indie bookstores in Minnesota that have shown up for their communities, providing support & resources to Minnesotans in need.
A light purple graphic with a white grid background and a white circle in the center that says, “Support Minnesota Indies”. Beneath the circle is a bright yellow bubble that says “Educator Giveaway”.

Not only do we need diverse books, but we need to defend diverse stories and storytellers. Join us in fighting back. 🧵 📚 bit.ly/DefendOurStories

Join us.” Along the right-hand side of the graphic is an illustration depicting a series of book spines, and within some of the book covers are ladders and staircases leading into the pages.Bright blue graphic with a border of multi-colored book spines along the bottom. At the top of the graphic is an illustration of multi-colored book spines that is part of the official We Need Diverse Books logo. Beneath the logo is all-caps text that says, “ Diverse books are getting banned. Diverse voices are being silenced. Wow, this NIV by Elizabeth Acevedo gave me chills. I loved its spirited MC, Xiomara, the images conjured by its poetic language, and the theme of finding truth through the stories we share. Read it. Even if you don't like poetry, read it. It will open up your ❤️.

@rebeccacaprara.bsky.social I just finished reading Spin and it blew me away. I will be thinking of it and Arachne's journey for a long time. As a writer exploring the format of novel in verse, the language and imagery was exquisite.
