1/ 🌊 New preprint! MAROR: a neural network that reconstructs gap-free HOURLY coastal sea level from 1940 to today at 373 tide gauges, driven only by atmospheric forcing + altimetry. Now open for public discussion in NHESS 👇 doi.org/10.5194/egus... Results in: maror.angelamores.org 🧵

🌊 I’ve just launched my new website! It brings together my research, publications, projects and work on physical oceanography, sea-level extremes, coastal hazards, numerical modelling and AI. Take a look: www.angelamores.org Feedback is very welcome!

I have a camera pointing at the sky over the Bay of Palma and I freaked out when I reviewed last night's footage. You can see the moon crossing the frame and halfway through something passes right in front of it. What do you think it is? Drop your guesses in the replies. I'll leave mine down here 👇

🌊 New paper out in GRL! Led by my PhD student Diego Vega-Gimenez (co-supervised with Ananda Pascual), we show for the first time how the SWOT satellite captures the 2D spatial footprint of storm surges along coastlines. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

A completely different topic: Roberto Alcaraz has developed a new AI algorithm to re-identify individuals of lizards that works amazingly well! And it is able to identify individuals of zebras, seals, whale sharks and even human fingerprints! Here the pre-print www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-7...

1/ 🌊New paper out in @pnas.org! We show that human-induced global warming is responsible for a 3-fold increase in marine heatwave (MHW) persistence and a 1°C rise in their intensity since 1940. Let’s dive in. #MarineHeatwaves #ClimateChange doi.org/10.1073/pnas...

First timelapse recorded by the camera I installed to observe the weather. It covers around 2 hours with one image per minute. Besides the evolution of the clouds, all the planes landing to PMI plus the movement of a planet (Saturn?) can be seen. Follow @weathercampalmabay.bsky.social for more!

Yesterday, I installed a camera that I will use to observe the weather in Palma Bay. But right after installing it, nature gave me a Christmas present: look at the image I’m sharing. It looks grainy, but those are thousands of birds, starlings migrating to Mallorca.

1/ 🌊 Just published! 🚨 Our latest study, led by @dargueso.bsky.social, explores how anomalously high sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the Mediterranean fueled Storm Daniel, one of the deadliest storms in the region's history. Here's what we found. A thread 🧵👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Storm Daniel was fuelled by very high SSTs, which contributed to increase the precipitation rates, especially in Libya. Check our latest paper in NPJClimAtSci rdcu.be/d39Su with @angel-amores.bsky.social and @martaimm.bsky.social

Hi folks! I am trying to publish a video on #bluesky using the API but I could not do it. Someone has any clue how to do it? Chatgpt told me that videos cannot be embedded yet with the API and that the only workaround is to publish the video on youtube and share the link. Help please!! #itcrowd

Now testing the BskyBridge API with a photo. This is Portocolom (Mallorca, Spain) on January 2020 being hit my Storm Gloria. This storm broke several records in the Balearic Islands, including the highest wave ever recorded in the area with 14.77m.
