Now I feel like I’m gonna have to go back and make novel length backstories for all of the crew 👀

Aneirin Pendragon @aneirinpendragon.bsky.social · 15/07/2026

Me: surely all of my backstories for my pirate crew will only be novella length and I won’t have to worry about getting carried away My bigender Cornish pirate: I’m going to be at least 100,000 words and you’re not even close to being done yet Anyway, Tamsin/Thomas is one of my favourites

Okay, I finished Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die this morning and I have FEELINGS and OPINIONS so I’m gonna need other people who’ve read it to shout at me in the comments Gonna try to finish reading Ship of Spells now Also, back to writing my queer pirates and their current shenanigans 🏴‍☠️

Aneirin Pendragon @aneirinpendragon.bsky.social · 06/07/2026

I’m 99% sure that Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die is one of the best books I’ve ever read (full stop), the best book I’ve read in 2026 (but to be fair I’m mostly reading PhD stuff rn), and the only thing that can keep my attention more than YouTube at the moment. Big endorsement from my AuDHD.

Thank you! Aye I’ve actually just gotten back into it this past year and honestly it helped me out of some deep depression I was in so I’m hoping to come out with a PhD and couple of fiction manuscripts to query in the next few months 🥰

Thank you! (Also, duly noted, so thank you twice 😁)

Despite the fact I’m nose-deep in edits for my PhD, I’ve still managed to find some time to work on my queer pirate novel 🏴‍☠️ (Think OFMD for the humour, Black Sails for historical accuracy meeting fictional pirates, & the touch of fantasy from PotC) I’m working on backstories for the entire crew, too

The workshop was led by a Ukrainian writer and refugee and the topic was Fairy Tales for Adults: Stories of Displacement and Magic We used oracle cards for prompts and it was absolutely lovely 😁

I should have said but I’m wandering about the Dundee Book Festival this weekend! If you see me, feel free to say hi 🫶🏻 Only managed evening events yesterday, but here til the evening today! I also attended a free writing workshop on Thursday in St Andrews through the Refugee Festival Scotland 🥰

Aneirin Pendragon @aneirinpendragon.bsky.social · 07/06/2026

Wrote 7,490 words yesterday. If I was paid per word like they were back in the day, I wouldn’t have to find a part-time job while trying to finish my PhD 😭🫠

Btw y’all this word count has double since then and is at 124k and definitely going to have the three parts split into their own books 😂

LI is former lieutenant of the Royal Scots Navy that’s plucked out of the water and Tamsin/Thomas is NOT happy about having to share the helm with Malcolm (Malina), after losing her last LI. Aaaaaall kindsa nonsense with those two. And that’s just one of my couples on the crew 😂

000

Aneirin Pendragon @aneirinpendragon.bsky.social · 07/06/2026

Currently working on my bigender bisexual disaster with anger issues, who goes into a severe spiral whose HEA love interest meets her and she 1. Punches the LI in the face and 2. The LI challenges her to a duel about it, and both of them are trying to hide the fact that they’re not cis men

Aneirin Pendragon @aneirinpendragon.bsky.social · 07/06/2026

I’m ngl, I saw this posted elsewhere, came here specifically to let you know if you like queer disaster pirates, I’m working on a historical fiction & all 30 of the crew are getting their own backstories & most of them I wouldn’t necessarily call good people 👀

Any of y’all have recs where to find a good artist for character art? I got one piece that’s itching my brain and alas I draw like a kindergartner who just discovered that they can draw with more than just the blue Crayola crayon. So I must outsource to those superior to me.

Yesterday's Grand Slam Final was nothing short of phenomenal. Every poet left it all on that stage in a spectacular showcase of the power, poignacy, and range of spoken word poetry. Thank you so much to all of our slammers, and congratulations to our new 2025 Loud Poets Champion Aditya Narayan!

Photo of the participants in the 2025 Loud Poets Grand Slam Final standing onstage screaming joyously in front of a projector reading 'Scotland's premiere spoken word night: Loud Poets x Edinburgh International Book Festival.' They are (L-R): EmmaClaire Brightlyn, Arlo Bayne, Culain Wood, Aditya Narayan, Doroti Polgar, Kevin Mclean, Lucas Sheridan, Elle Dillon-Reams, Tracey S. Rosenberg, Henry Madd, Lucy Beth, and Trystan Lewis.

Here’s what I’m gonna be reading during my breaks and with my morning coffee. It feels illegal for me to not be reading a dark academia book set at my uni. So off I go.

The cover of the book When We Were Killers by C.F. Barrington. There are neon pink flowers in the background of the wording and the cover is black.

She said my breath control was better than every student at the uni she’d met — breath control used to be my BIGGEST ISSUE Now we’re working on my diction (I tend to drop the end of my words in a phrase) and confidence but 😭😭😭 my soprano end of my voice is a professional now 🥰

Aneirin Pendragon @aneirinpendragon.bsky.social · 19/03/2025

More good notes from my new vocal instructor where I legitimately almost teared up: “Your higher register is already at the professional caliber, but we need to work on your lower notes.” Okay I can do that! BUT EXCUSE ME PROFESSIONAL??? AHHH “You have incredible breath control.”
