"y'know who's NOT bad?? PURDUE!!" - @jasonkirk.fyi and @edsbs.bsky.social, i was cooking dinner while listening and found myself automatically pausing the pod, turning the stove off, closing the blinds, and relaxing onto the couch, to listen to the segment fresh and tucked in.

rewatching Purdue - Minnesota, i know i'm turning into an old grizzled football fan bc i find myself falling in love for a dominant offensive line that loves nothing more than repeatedly caving skulls while calling 45 straight run plays

btw - i don't care what the strength of schedule numbers say. Purdue doesn't a particularly difficult schedule. the only craziness is ND noncon, but the B10 slate is pretty manageable. expectations for the program have cratered.

let's even take actual winning out of this. let's go moral victories. Purdue has been competitive in 7 games (P4) during the 2024, 2025, and a third of the 2026 season. competitive. a decent chance at a win, not even the win itself. that's not investment. that's coaching.

to me, it's: identifying overlooked talent, having a clear offensive + pass rushing identity, schematic player development/adaptability, and aggressive gameday playcalling. not sure i see anything like that from this veteran staff.

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Purdue's problem isn't (only) the trustees. they've always been conservative with football investment, but they've still found ways to win. Barry Odom talks about "playing Purdue football", and i'd really love anyone to ask a follow-up about what he thinks that means.

look at the Ross Ade stands and tell me that. we have one of the largest living alumni bases, haven't won a P4 game in 1,039 days, and are still 85%+ full. Cig would kill for that level of time/energy investment from the fanbase.

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
idk, somehow they went with "opposite of our last", but with all of the negatives still remaining - bc Walt was from that coaching lineage! it's just very unserious.

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
the best case scenario for Barry Odom is Bert at Illinois, and that makes me sad

is it truly this difficult to find people who love doing cool things, and want to make money by doing cool things instead of evil get-rich-quick scams, who hollow out the thing they're leading in favor of a quarterly earnings report?

Purdue is not some underdog aw-shucks athletic department, and it would be great if the people in charge realized that

it's noticeable that Purdue's board, president, and search committee were all stunned that people would want the athletic director job of massive Big Ten school

did Purdue forget to stream the new AD intro on youtube or are they just trying to keep this as small as possible

Purdue twitter/message board obsession with a particular non-Bobinski member of the athletic department administration will forever be weird and strange and gross
031
Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
i would have preferred a more ambitious hire from the ACC or B12 - UVA has a fantastic AD who might be looking for the next thing after a decade. but Purdue is, again, gambling on the value hire. we'll see.

(it's a very persuasive argument that fundraising at Vandy and Rice, who of the wealthiest southern schools, is *not at all* predictive of fundraising success at a place like Purdue, which has lots of well-off alums but no prominent billionaire sports donors and no culture of donations like that)

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
Purdue seems ready to hire a new athletic director from within, or from a non-P5 school. it could work, but buddy boy is it a very risky process if we're looking forward to modernization.

i should start posting here more bc twitter has become a disaster. anyway, Micah Beckwith can gtfo if he thinks one of the best public universities in the country can be his political punching bag to attack our lgbtq and muslim homies. keep Purdue out of it, you absolute loser.

@celebrityhottub.bsky.social recently Purdue has had: - cfb superweapon / B10 division title / worst ever single season, - mbb 2x NPOY / #16 loss / nat'l runner-up, - wbb scandals, - emerging VB. all while our biggest rival goes from worst to greatest cfb story. we demand a We're Not All Like This.

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
UNC went with Bill Belichick. UCF went back to Scott Frost. WVU went back to Rich Rod. Purdue was the only P4 program running a sane football coaching search.

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 10/12/2024
thinking about this new cfb landscape - when would a B10/SEC team ever start a non-5 star underclassman qb, if so many proven older players want to transfer up? the best path for a 3- or 4-star qb recruit who isn't getting much $$$ is to get two solid years of numbers at a G5 and transfer up to P2.
021
Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
and there are still so many ifs - if Purdue ends up with Odom, if Marion comes, if they bring a handful of UNLV transfers (including lead RB Jai'Den Thomas and a handful of WRs & LBs/DBs, if they scour the market for the right QB, if they manufacture good line play.
120
Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
but idk - Odom is a defensive guy, and Marion will almost certainly be poached after a year. it's a very specific offense - how will that sustain? Odom is a very rah-rah guy, more than a schematic guy - can that, and a good staff, equalize the gap in this Big Ten?
110
Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
on paper Odom is a tremendous get for Bobinski and Purdue - coach at multiple stops, Big 2 experience, has a history of identifying great assistant coaches, he's both a hardass and players coach, and he finished this season with his G5 team inside the Top 25.

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 07/12/2024
Jeff Monken to Purdue would be cool and a fun risk, with a much higher floor than the risk Bobinski took with Walters. doesn't seem like Sumrall, Silverfield, or Odom have much interest. it won't be a MAC guy. Matt Campbell might listen and that would be incredible. but, to me, it's Helton.

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 07/12/2024
i don't understand the apprehension to Tyson Helton from some Purdue fans at all. HC track record, player development, playing style, coaching staff hiring success, innovation with the transfer portal, regional fit, great vibes. perfect fit. seems like some Purdue people just want to complain.

the best, cleanest, most natural fit for the Purdue job is Tyson Helton at WKU. at first, it might not seem exciting, but the more i thought about it the more it just feels like the perfect fit: www.boiledsports.com/posts/2024/1...

"fans" who pushed the off-field Walters rumors should be buried under Ross Ade and never heard from again

the more i think about it, the more i think it'll be Helton for Purdue, and i've already talked myself into it, and will be buying Homefield WKU gear in tribute for their constant flow of good coaches to West Lafayette.

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 02/12/2024
the Extremely Online anger at Bobinski is odd - there were things to be annoyed about, like the "trending towards" keeping Walters story, but once the Harrell firing happened and the season continued without Bobinski's comment, it was clear. did people really just want an early firing announcement?

Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 02/12/2024
to me, UNC is leagues better of a job than Purdue. yes, ACC vs B10, but UNC is a brand that will always be wanted and always be in the top half of whatever premium conference it chooses. Campbell has earned the right to be choosy, and a job like UNC fits more than Purdue.
010
Aneesh @aneeshswamy.bsky.social · 01/12/2024
i think Tyson Helton is the most likely candidate for Purdue - seemingly the 2022 runner-up, has been vetted by the athletic dept, would take the job, wouldn't be as expensive staff + buyout. but with Cignetti's football success at IU, at least try for the big swing in Chadwell.
