I'm still upset about what happened to Loleatta, the Tim Lawrence interview on his site with her confirmed the horror of an artist having their voice and identity stolen whilst nobody stood up for them

Been reflecting on why I don't feel like they do: I love music of Black origin and wouldn't approach it in the spirit of parody & disrespect I understand the connection between Hip Hop, community activism & social justice I've always been treated with kindness & respect by Black audiences + MCs🙏

Totally agree mate, think it's to do with a perception that UK rappers are intrinsically silly and so there's a lot of white guys who do this sort of stuff "tongue in cheek" Stupid shit like Chap Hop (where people do rap covers in posh voices) will always be more popular than the best UK boom bap

Well, the internet does like to annoint fools, and there's an innate tendency for comedy rap to get more attention than anyone trying to do it with respect in the UK Best to just ignore it!

Our cats have shown quite distinctive differences in responses to music - our girl Moonshine sat still and pricked up her ears to jazz, our boy Rudy was a junglist bad man who would curl up and sleep to pummelling bass & amen tear outs. Current girl Ronda seems to like a bit of soul and 90's R&B

Nice! My brother in law bought me a vinyl copy of The Boy And The Tree as my introduction, and then I was finding some of the CDs in the Fopp Sheffield store for £5 and grabbed a few of them - it's long-closed now but man I got some great books, CDs, vinyl and DVDs there!

Hi Paul, Yokota was an incredible artist, such a loss to music that he passed so young Sakura is just bliss, I also love the off-kilter ambience of Grinning Cat, another album bound to show up on this ever-expanding thread of randomness!

Thank you! Couldn't access the actual statement earlier on, the PRS site seemed overwhelmed I can't have been the only one interested after getting an email alert this morning Luckily I could see it on my bank to defuse the suspense after 10 minutes of the page on PRS freezing and apologising

When I started rapping & DJing for money in the late 90's & into the noughties, it was usually £100-200 per gig Multiverse 3 got up to £250 per show, the going rate for more established UK hip hop acts too Low budget, but there was a budget! Now we're playing for free and getting our own drinks

Got my first ever royalty payment from the Performing Rights Society just now Not a massive amount, but I'm celebrating the work I've put in to get even this, and the hope that this'll be the start of a steady trickle of income It still seems strange there's so little of the music economy left

Okay those orders went yesterday, who's in for supporting independent music some more? Already seen the sales value of Third Rotation online and offline outstrip the digital Dragon Trax compilation First Orbit, previously our best selling release from almost 3 years back!
