UK Government posted an emergency alert over wildfires the other day (14/08/26). There has been criticism. Understandably.? No. I'm told it surprised a few people. Really? Apparently, they didn't warn anyone. No. People simply aren't paying attention to the environment we're creating.

Interesting article on Clean vs Cheap energy. And as increasingly usual with the Beeb, it treads a middle line, but misses the obvious snswer. That energy is expensive - because Clean is propping up Methane Gas. Move quicker to Renewables, then we don't have to: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A thought for today on road transport. If BEV technology was the only transportation technology for 120 years, nobody would invent and adopt one which costs more overall. ICEs are a huge fire risk, are noisy, they vibrate, wear out relatively quickly, are therefore maintenance heavy...

Maybe these need to be put on a few menus/supermarket walls. These are from the UK National Food Strategy, showing the proportion of UK land used for different things (huge for beef/lamb, tiny for crops), & where we get our calories and protein (68% & 52% from plants). The difference is staggering.
Map of the UK, showing the huge proportion of land used for beef, dairy and lamb production and the tiny proportion used for crops, next to a plot showing that 68% of UK calories and 52% of our protein come from the plants.

Hooray.! About time too. And let's NOT issue new licences for new drilling in the North Sea. That won't bring down consumer bills at all. Decoupling Renewables from Gas will. BBC News - Heat pumps for all new homes and plug-in solar in green tech drive - BBC News www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Indeed. It might seem bad taste to mention it right now, but countries can immunise themselves against oil/gas resource wars by sprinting to renewables, which are cheap and already propping up expensive, uncompetitive fossil-fuels.

It's a little known fact that if the hectares of maize grown in the USA, to provide an annual crop for bio-fuel to add to gasoline, were covered by solar panels, they would provide 185% of the electrical power demand for the entire USA. Cheaply. Yet expensive fossil-fuels are protected instead. Odd?

Unbelievable.! Been listening to Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2 about the costs of war. Someone phoned to ask about Renewables. The advice was that they are more expensive than importing oil. What kind of misinformation is that.? Renewables prices are kept artificially high by propping up fossil-fuels.

It is with shock and genuine sadness that I learn of the passing of my good friend, long time colleage and just a really kind man, Quentin Willson. He will be sorely missed by many who knew and worked with him.

So sorry to hear of the death of ex-original Top Gear presenter, and clean transport campaigner, Quentin Willson. Back in the days of ICEVs I loved his wry sarcasm and grounded reviews. For the last 10 years he has fought for the electrification of transport. Thoughts are with his family.

Here's a thought... Did you know? For every $1 spent globally on sustainable energy subsidies, encompassing all areas — the world spends about $35 subsidising fossil fuels, encompassing all areas. Fossil-Fuels = $7 trillion annually. Sustainable Energies = $213 billion annually. Made you think?

Just thought I'd show a random day for renewable energy in the UK. Yes there is some gas, as said, it's a random day. Now imagine all those gas boilers being replaced by heat pumps. We can make the change.

The whole problem with the global economy is ENERGY COST. Once, fossil-fuel industries galvanised economies into growth. But for a very long time they have cost too much, stagnating economies, while we subsidise those industries to search for even higher cost resources. We must stop this madness.

Get signing folks. The fossil fuel companies don't need advertising anyway, so it's an easy call. We give them far too much subsidy, in any case. £0.00 would be a good figure for the future.
