Here me out. If I ever become a celebrity enough to come on your show, I can do a half hour on potatoes no problem.

Do you have an average of how many states are different than predictions because of polling error? Maybe polls w 2-8 pts difference to exclude true tossups and blowouts.

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

There’s really only one way to mark the 99th anniversary of Roger Moore’s birth
Marc Haynes’ story: As a 7 year old in about 1983, … I was with my grandad in Nice Airport and saw Roger Moore Sitting at the departure gate, ... told my granddad i'd just seen James Bond and asked if we could go over so I could get his autograph. …so we walked over and he popped me in front of Roger Moore, with the words "my grandson says you're famous. Can you sign this?" As charming as you'd expect, Roger asks my name and signs the back of my plane ticket... I'm ecstatic, but …I glance down at the signature. … it definitely doesn't say 'James Bond'. ...I tell my grandad he's signed it wrong, … so my grandad heads back to Roger Moore...
"he says you've signed the wrong name. He says your name is James Bond." Roger Moore's face crinkled up with realisation and he beckoned me over. …he leant over, looked from side to side, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said "I have to sign my name as 'Roger Moore because otherwise...Blofeld might find out I was here." He asked me not to tell anyone …and thanked me for keeping his secret. I went back to our seats, my nerves absolutely jangling with delight. My grandad asked me if he'd signed 'James Bond.' No, I said.
I'd got it wrong. I was working with James Bond now. Many years later, I was working on a recording that involved UNICEF, and Roger Moore was doing a piece to camera as an ambassador. He was lovely and while the cameramen were setting up, I told him the story. He …had a chuckle and said "Well, I don't remember but I'm glad you got to meet James Bond." So that was lovely. And then he did something so brilliant. After the filming, he walked past me in the corridor, heading out to his car - but as he got level, he paused looked both ways, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said, "Of course I remember our meeting in Nice. But I didn't say anything in there, because those cameramen - any one of them could be working for Blofeld."
I was as delighted at 30 as I had been at 7. What a man. What a tremendous man.

The “hidden” have certain traits that pull in different directions. It depends on which feature you think dominates. They tend to be… - GOP (if so, polls overstate D) - Less likely to vote (if so, polls are close) - Anti-establishment (if so, polls understate D)

Curious about where you see Cory Doctorow in this discussion. He seems to be skeptical of the economics of it and pushes on the limits but also sees places where it’s extremely useful.

I get that. especially non-Georgians and bad faith actors. Can be hard to weed them out. Even so, I know a lot of black folks who are weary in this particular way. It’s a sentiment that’s out there, even if used in bad faith here.

As an *indicator* on Election Day, you make a good point. However, Many black folks are tired of hearing that if only *they* did better things would be better. Choosing to point out the black vote reads like blaming them for 2024 results. Seems that’s not your intent, but listen to your readers.

Can anyone translate this into non-technical for me? As far as I can tell, it means: -Facebook’s AI has terrible security to the point where it will just email you its entire instruction code -Anyone can use it for bad purposes -Plus it’s incredibly invasive So basically born to be a scam machine

It’s superb. A lot is visual plus the pacing is a little more meditative than most shows, so I recommend paying a little more attention when you watch. Attention doesn’t mean concentration - it doesn’t feel like effort. More like it rewards sinking into its vibe without a lot of distraction.

Remarkable. Couple of thoughts, possible follow-ups. 1. Can you tell if low-turnout is dependent on negativity? Or were they low-turnout before? 2. Can you tell if there are 2 types of low-turnout voters? Only vote if Trump is on ballot vs. general low-turnout. (Media assumes 1, you’re on 2)

Interesting. We’ve found similar results. They’re also useful for interviews with voice or even video, within limits In my experience they’re average moderators. They can get a lot of answers, keep conversation focused and delve into pre-arranged topics. But they weed out some people and nuance

It’s all scale and degree, right? It’s not that they go up, but WAY up. It’s not that they can’t deficit spend, but it’s SO much. Demand (that pays) has to skyrocket. It’s not that there’s an inherent problem with deferring costs, but don’t mistake today’s cost structure for the long-term one.
000 0
Andy Meyers @andymeyers10.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
OK. I think I get you a little more. It’s non-ARM in that it’s added capacity. Housing-like in that you get a massive item all at once. And ARM-like in that costs are deferred and explode after 2 years. (I reread the article and Anthropic vs OpenAI parallels your position vs my position)

Fwiw, that asterisk is doing a lot of work.
100 1
Andy Meyers @andymeyers10.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
And the costs are not on the books today. They go on the books when the data center is ready to go - about 2 yrs from now. Hence the ARM or balloon analogy The mistake is to pretend that now and later are the same when one includes costs and the other defers them.
100 1
Andy Meyers @andymeyers10.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
This is wrong. And the core misunderstanding he’s trying to debunk. Costs in 2027 DON’T go up and down proportionally with the about of compute. They’re set. They’re set at max. OpenAI will pay for the max compute no matter how much or little they want or if they can charge their customers for it
110 1
Andy Meyers @andymeyers10.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
The only way they can afford any compute now is because they’re borrowing. They don’t make profit on that compute. Financiers that use today’s structure as the basis for projections are ignoring the upcoming payments and convinced there’s a magic “AI doesn’t have to pay for things ever” button.
000 0
Andy Meyers @andymeyers10.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
They’re like ARMs because they have a committment to make rent payments in the future that they are not making now. Those payments are scheduled for 2 years from now. Like people w 2006 ARMs, their plan does not actually include having cash to make those payments when they come due. Not even close.
200 2
Andy Meyers @andymeyers10.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
His point is that the obligations are ballooning well beyond the revenue growth, even the OpenAI revenue projections. They’ll need to change the balloon (restructure) to make it. Or get more revenue from someone else (financiers).
100 1
Andy Meyers @andymeyers10.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
They agreed to pay for all the compute whether they use it or not. They agreed to pay for a LOT, starting next year. They are on the hook for that compute whether they use it, rent it out, go into the wine business, or charge other people for it. Where does the cash come from when payments start?

Best summary of AI finance I’ve seen “The single most important credit fact in the global economy right now fits in one sentence: the largest capital cycle in the history of technology is underwritten, to the tune of roughly one trillion dollars, by two private companies that do not make money.”
