By 1981/82 I was already more into OMD (and had bought Ultravox's Vienna album). Once 'Temptation' came out I just got drawn into New Order and PCL (and a Radio One in concert performance) cemented that. Gave all my Tubeway Army and Numan stuff (everything he'd released '78-83) away in 1999. Doh!

I think there was something about the timing - he hit the charts as I was turning 11, moving up to secondary school, starting to go to #lufc matches. His weird sci fi music and image just struck a chord. I love I Die You Die. By 1983 I'd completely moved on, never bought anything since.

I was 12 when it came out and it was the first proper album I'd bought. I don't like every track on it, but the overall effect was quite stunning back then, to someone of the Star Trek / Dr Who generation like me, whose musical influences included Popcorn, Bowie's Space Oddity & KW's Autobahn.

Again, it's part of a trilogy, and I think the evolution in such a short space of time is impressive. Also the fact that he wrote, produced and performed them all, at the age of 20-22. I could have chosen Replicas or Pleasure Principle but Telekon was the one I brought first, and it really got me.

Ha, no I'd taken my 'proper' camera to that one. I was a fan of those disposable ones though, took one to our UEFA cup game at Monaco, I seem to recall.

The very same. You can see from the photo where I was stood - fairly near the front of the kop (where I had a season ticket in those days), to the left of the goal. So, about ten yards from Batty as he scored. Carnage. Happy days. #lufc

Yep there's some good versions on those two albums. Easy to forget the context - everyone going nuts from isolation and confinement, they decided to put their time to good use and put these albums together, some nice takes.

I *think* you'd like it. Or might have done 35 years ago. It's faster and rougher musically than the Roses, Smiths or even Oasis, but it's just teenage angst lyrics with fast guitars and catchy melodies. Very much spoke to teenage me, and still does.

My dad went out and bought one while #lufc were 2-0 up at Oxford in a game that was going to ve on #motd, but turned out....badly. He went for a Betamax as he'd been told it was higher quality than VHS and would therefore ultimately become the dominant format. Yeah, that worked out well too.... 🙄

Yep, they're almost a trilogy. My elder brother had them all, and it was a gateway to that kind of sound. I've gone and put Oxygene on again now. It's still futuristic, 50 years on. I was familiar with, and beguiled by, the Autobahn single from an earlier age, but didn't buy the KW LPs til later.

Not very cool or original, but if this is meant to be stuff that was formative or influential in our early years, this would be a reasonable representation. Give or take the odd Thomas Dolby, China Crisis or Thompson Twins album. And ABBA and The Beatles. But let's not mention them. #My9albums

This has prompted me to dig out my own dissertation, which included this photo I took during the #lufc vs City game 35 years ago this week. Think the City players might be Heath and Curle? A couple of pages on I included a quote from Peter Swales on the perils of the play offs. Pretentious, moi?

Shutt and Fairclough. Shutt also got the winner there the following season, his only league goal that title-winning season. #lufc

I *think* my first away was Spurs in 1982. Used to go occasionally with my dad 'til mid-80s, then regularly with supporters club 'til 2003. Last league away game I got a ticket for was Fulham in around 2016.

Good luck. It can be a unique atmosphere, definitely worth experiencing. I keep trying, haven't been successful for an away league game for years. #lufc

I used to work in that building, when it was an office block, 25 years ago, fact fans. I was working there on 9th September 2001. It's directly across the river from the MI6 building, and I was very conscious that if anyone wanted to fly a plane into that they'd have to go straight through my desk

St Etienne's last UK gig last night - a night of joyous melancholy, happy/sad melodies and a few tears. He's On The Phone/7 Ways to Love megamix was outstanding. Thank you very much Bob, Pete, Sarah.

If a highly over-valued Darko Gyabi ends up being the thing that brings the whole rotten edifice of the EPL crashing down, then so be it.

Some clubs did very well out of selling players to City for tidy sums. And then reinvesting those fees into other players, better ones than they might otherwise have been able to afford. And then finishing higher in the league or winning a trophy or getting promoted. Just sayin

I had been wondering why Noel & Liam would want to bother with another mammoth run of concerts next year. Maybe they're doing it as a fundraiser for some friends who may be struggling to pay their bills? 🤔

Scores on the doors? I'm currently listening to "You need a mess of help to stand alone" as part of my prep for tomorrow. Some right bangers from 1991-93. Been listening to their back catalogue all week - joyous, wistful, melancholic, romantic, poptastic. #BobPeteSarah

It was a ridiculously good goal. Didn't John Barnes score one similarly brilliant in the 4-5 later in the season? #lufc

There's some grainy YTV footage on the Internet somewhere. The goal doesn't look as good now as I remember it - I was 13, sat in the South Stand Upper with my dad, and thought it was the best thing I'd ever seen. Ipswich were challenging Villa for the title, we won 3-0, it was ace! #lufc

Fantastic. Although also very grounding to be reminded that in the 45 years since, we've only added one major trophy (and three second division titles, and a Charity Shield) to our honours board. #lufc

Gillian's singing really is quality. Who knew? You could file NO's (BS's?) disinclination to utilise her voice on NO records as yet another shooting themselves in the foot moment. OT&Y is, as you say, a collection of some very fine techno pop, especially the singles.
