Graphic designers: why did they smush the MTV logo?

This just popped into my head and I burst out laughing. Still remember when they cut to this; one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

From Arrested Development, when they find George in a foxhole exactly like Saddam Hussein was

Went to see Robyn on the Sexistential Tour here in LA this week. Beautiful, brilliant show. Highly recommend going if you’re even a casual fan.

ALIAS: RED BAND: Returning to her MAX roots, Jessica Jones teams w/ Typhoid Mary to catch a serial killer in Hell’s Kitchen. @samhumphries.bsky.social & @geraldoborges.bsky.social invoke Bendis & Gaydos while telling a suspenseful (and funny!) buddy cop thriller that’s all their own. Excellent.

SHOWDOWN: we seem to be in a golden age of small town noirs in comics. @davewielgosz.bsky.social & @taddgalusha.bsky.social take us to the cold and boozy streets of rural Massachusetts for a novel approach to revenge, trauma, and legacy, with a surprise ending I won’t spoil.

LAZARUS: @gregrucka.com & @michaellark.bsky.social come closer than anyone to predicting the future we live in with this addictive dystopian thriller. Hopefully they can show us the way out of it too. Featuring the great work of @mercuryeric.bsky.social + @iamdavidbrothers.com + @alejandrobot.com

I think the comics stuff that awed me the most were the full size Hal Foster, Chris Ware, Philippe Druillet and Alex Raymond pages. The boards were way bigger than I realized, and I knew the Foster pages were big but jesus christ. I didn’t get a good pic of his but here’s some stuff.

I took loads of pictures but they honestly look like shit compared to the real thing. The lighting and design of this place makes all the exhibits feel awesome, in the classical sense of the word, and the camera doesn’t do it justice.

Unsurprisingly, I got California on the dialect quiz. I was born in LA and have lived here longer than anywhere else. I guess the other 49% of my answers reflect influences from my time overseas with Americans from all over. mydialect.us/quiz-extende...

Honored elders: I’m watching “9 TO 5”for the first time and I have an honest question: was that xerox machine actually real or is it meant to be like a parody of enormous complicated office machines?

SAGA: this hardly needs my endorsement, but a reread of the whole thing reminds me why this book exploded like it did. What I love most is how they weave their expansive cast in and out of the narrative in just the right places, which keeps the book feeling fresh. There’s still nothing like it.

Tim Curry had so many amazing performances. One that I think gets forgotten is Cardinal Richelieu in Disney’s THE THREE MUSKETEERS (1993). He’s in full on villain mode in a very entertaining kids’ adventure film. Menacing and funny at the same time, absolutely chews the scenery.

I love the late Mr Hauer but he vastly exaggerated his contribution to that monologue throughout his life. Here’s the script version.
