This year was my first visit to the Battlefield Line, the weekend they were running the slim 33 along with the 31/4 before it went back up north. Had a great day there, very enjoyable. I need to revisit though to get the full line done as they were only running to M. Bosworth

Yeah I'd take two tone green over maroon every time. The blue BR liveries are excellent as you say, but i can't see WCR going that far! Regarding 593, yeah she looked best in LL but the current InterCity isn't too shabby either in my view, especially when on their mk3s

How much is membership roughly? I only usually get over there once a year when we do 2 days at the spring diesel gala so it may not pay so well for me. I've just been trying to spread my available time around as many different lines as i can recently, working M-F can be tricky to fit stuff around

Also the East Lancs gala was £25, the SVR is, i think, £43. That will make a difference to some people. ELR was amazing value for that price to be honest

I had planned to go when it was originally said to be a Sulzer gala with four peaks in operation. No idea what subsequently happened to make the change to home fleet only, it is a very decent home fleet to be fair, but i changed plans and did the East Lancs the other weekend instead.

Yes indeed! Hardly anything NBL preserved either, just the 84 i think from the post steam BR era. I really hope i'm around long enough to see and ride behind the Metrovick when it eventually gets back running.

There was an awful lot of new technology being introduced around that time wasn't there, various builders, engine suppliers, transmission types etc.. i guess it's not suprising that some details were overlooked or maybe not tested as much as was needed possibly?

To do with the bogie mounting i think? They ran at higher speeds than the German locos they were based on and the dodgy ride was at those higher speeds I believe?

It l9oksa lot different to how it did when i used to go there as a kid. These days i reckon Nuneaton is a much better starion for a longer fester. Or somewhere like Atherstone for good views of all lines (and a decent pub nearby..)

Max speeds vary a lot i imagine. Felt like it was up to around the 100 mark through the central belt but other areas much slower. But as you say all a lot slower than the GW & ECML speeds. And that was with full sets, it's 4 or 5 coaches now of course.

Thanks Peter. It's mindblowing to think how many years this loco has been in preservation compared to It's relatively brief mainline BR career!

They still rattle along fairly swiftly up there from what we found. Nice and comfortable too 👍
