If you read my posts you'll see that I say we need the proprietary software guys to get onboard. Linux will never be mainstream while Microsoft has clear dominance on the retail side of things. And I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'm not here to argue that Linux is for everyone, because it isn't. I always say "use what works for you". If that's Linux, great. If you need Windows or Mac, then that's great too. I'll repeat myself, it's an OS, not a cult.

And how many of those 95% will even know what a batch file is, or how to use it? As for primetime, if you see my post earlier in the thread, I said it depends entirely on use case. If you need proprietary software that doesn't run on Linux, stay on Windows.

It's a PC at the end of the day, so of course there will be similarities. And if you have used it, you know full well that your system can be as bloated or as barebones as you want it to be.

Use it, don't use it. It's an OS, not a cult. You clearly have issues with it, but you haven't said what your Linux experience is, or when you've used it. You're just repeating the Linux memes of old.

I don't want to be Mr Robot. It was boring as hell. I've been using Linux for the last 16 years. Has it improved in that time, yes, but it did everything I wanted it to back in 2009 and it's even better now.

Go to the app store, click on Steam and Proton Plus. Install and run. Steam now working without the terminal. When was the last time you used Linux? I'm a long time Linux user and confirmed distro hopper, and you're describing the Linux of some years ago. This isn't the Linux of today.

As a long time Linux user (16 years), I agree. Linux has improved so much over the years. What we need is to get the proprietary software guys to understand that.

You have to remember that we're the odd ones out here. We're the nerds, the geeks. We love this stuff. The majority of normal PC users don't even know what Linux is. And thanks to 99.9% of retail selling only Windows & Mac, they never will.

They were stuck in front of a Windows PC once too. They just got on with it and learned what they needed to learn. The advantage they have now is that they already know the basics thanks to their Windows experience. It might take a while, but if they are willing to learn, they'd be fine.

I would've said Novatech, because you used to be able to buy one without an OS, but looking at their website, they don't seem to sell laptops any more. Framework would be the cool kids choice, but the DHH link sours that for me. I'd probably go to John Lewis just for the extra year of warranty.

Indeed, but that won't stop them trying. Something very odd is going on with Omarchy. I've been a Linux user for 16 years and I've never seen the money invested, or the YouTube push (shilling) that that is for Omarchy over the last month or so.

It's all part of card night. One night of the weekend, we play cards, have a lot of drinks and listen to 80s music. When the cards are done we have a pizza,more drinks and then watch Frasier. It's my favourite night of the week.
