Atletico Madrid away is always going to be a VERY tough game but United have actually done ok so far (with the exception of the opening minute). Mbeumo looks dangerous. The midfield is a bit better than it has in previous games. Carrick wasn’t joking when he said Bruno was carrying something. #MUFC

I always used to get a thrill going into Affleck’s. It felt like entering a slightly different world.

It's too late. The party has already been hijacked and that motion has already done considerable damage. Lots of people have seen this and drawn the obvious conclusion - that in its current state The Green Party is not a serious party.

Will this ‘dome’ be built before or after the 40 new hospitals?

Like it or not, the perception from here on will be that the party contains at least 1,022 extremists.

Whatever the motivations behind this motion, it sends a strong signal to voters that they are a party which contains quite a few extremists.

We might be able to buy elite players if we hadn’t been saddled with all that debt 20 years ago by the Glazer family.

It could be Cunha left and Rashford up top… or fluidity in switching positions during the game?

I think Heaven will be a great player someday but he is still learning. Games like this will help. Not sure about Santos. Did we basically sign him because he was available? Maybe the Baleba signing shows that we are not 100% convinced on Santos. Here comes Marcus!!!

I think that stimulating a growth in the cooperative sector will probably be a part of it.

Andy Burnham has immediately focused on bringing 'a new political and economic model' - drawing a contrast with what happened in the 1980s - in all of his recent speeches. This bodes well and shows he wants to bring genuine change.

You realise that these comments were a response to the 'Malvinas' banner that the Argentine players held up on the pitch?

I like Rice. Gordon is a bit of an enigma to me. Spence? Meh. Madueke looks like a Championship player to me at times.

A big congratulations to @andyburnham.bsky.social on his resounding win in Makerfield! These results are clear, when the progressive vote unites, Farage and Reform don’t stand a chance.

6 by-election losses in a row though across England, Scotland and Wales. They ARE having many nights like yesterday.

Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.

This suggests Andy Burnham can reach across different party loyalties. Could be useful if he does become PM.

Lots of people focusing on page 1 and ignoring page 2. Page 2 is far more interesting and goes to the heart of why he was appointed. He was a calculated risk - surely we all knew that at the time?

It sounds like you want nationalisation simply for the sake of nationalisation.

Andy Daly @andydaly.bsky.social · 01/06/2026
Yes, correct. Are you trying to claim that our railways should have no facet at all of leased equipment and that absolutely everything should be owned by the taxpayer? If so, why?

I think whoever is Labour PM at the time of the next general election will probably put a Rejoin referendum in the manifesto. Starmer has clearly been doing some of the patient, slow, quiet groundwork for it. I'm sure Burnham would do likewise. Let's see how things pan out.

Andy Daly @andydaly.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
No killer instinct on decisions? Fair comment. However, there's a weird section where they say Burnham successfully makes a connection with people "via something that only local leaders can realistically do: showing up in person, time after time." If so, how did he become popular around the country?

With the buses in GM, it’s public control (as in London) rather than public ownership yes, but it has been transformational. I have heard Burnham say all the right things on public ownership of utilities though. Anyway, yes I’ll read that.

I see Starmer as being a pragmatist and a centrist. Burnham has very much been 'on a journey'. He may have once been a centrist, but he has clearly discovered the taste for public ownership of key services/utilities. I'll take a look at the link though - thanks.

My hope is that the Greens take a grown-up approach to this one and either sit it out altogether or just put up a paper candidate without too much campaigning. The stakes (and the Reform/Restore vote share) are too high.

I saw the headline about the Green candidate for Makerfield quitting and I immediately wondered if it had been a case of antisemitism. Unfortunately, yes it was. Then I saw that the prospects of the previous frontrunner (Hayley Pierce) were damaged by social media posts about... Israel. Not good.
