Vegetarians – My Visual Dream Journal – Day 13
Artwork & Purchasing Details I have a terrible habit of sabotaging my own art career. Instead of painting cheerful cottages, inspirational sunsets, unicorns grazing beneath double rainbows, or whatever sensible people might choose to hang above the lounge room sofa, I keep finding myself recreating scenes from my nightmares. Nobody asked for this. There is no booming market for unsettling dream fragments dragged kicking and screaming out of the subconscious and onto paper.

For someone who has spent most of his life avoiding drawing people, this visual dream journal page feels like a particularly strange form of self-sabotage: a family thrown out of a vegetarian pub simply because they ate animals.

Can I transform this nightmare of scribbles into my next visual dream journal illustration? I’m well out of my comfort zone trying to illustrate people, something I’ve never been particularly good at.

An Arctic fox can hear a lemming moving beneath thick snow. It often launches itself headfirst into the snow like a furry missile, relying almost entirely on sound to find its next meal.

Where The Money Is – My Visual Dream Journal – Day 11
Sometimes a dream leaves behind a feeling long before it leaves behind an explanation. I should probably admit that I do not even like sport. I know that probably sounds un Australian, but it is true. I have always struggled to understand how billions of dollars, endless attention and entire weekends disappear into watching other people chase a ball around while artists, musicians, writers and makers often fight over the scraps left on the table.

In a world that often feels noisy, crowded and increasingly synthetic, I find comfort in a quieter life. Family. Animals. Art. A few acres of dirt. Something growing in the garden. A sketchbook nearby that hopefully hasn’t gotten too dusty. Not a bad way to spend a life.

The Devils Playground – My Visual Dream Journal – Day 9
My legs won't move, my arms feel like they're made of wet sand, and the scream building inside my chest comes out as some pathetic muffled noise. For years I blamed scary movies for these dreams, but I haven't watched a horror film in about a decade. Having kids will do that to you. These days the scariest thing I've seen on a screen is probably that lava monster from Moana.

Burning History – My Visual Dream Journal – Day 7
What if the greatest discoveries of humanity are not ahead of us, but buried underneath the stories we have forgotten? Listening to Graham Hancock has definitely left an impression on how I look at the past, not because I have all the answers, but because it makes me question how much human history has been lost, ignored or dismissed because it doesn’t fit the story we have been comfortable telling ourselves.

The inconvenience of convenience
We have spent the last few hundred years trying to remove inconvenience from our lives. And now we have reached a point where we can order almost anything we want with a few taps on a glowing rectangle, have it delivered to our front door within days, sometimes hours, and if it takes longer than expected we feel like civilisation itself has collapsed.

Trouble Inside – My Visual Dream Journal – Day 6
From the outside, everything looks ordinary. People walk their dogs, drink their coffee, talk about work, carry their shopping home. The street moves along as if the world is exactly where it should be. Sometimes the hardest part of carrying an inner conflict is looking out at a world that seems calm and orderly. Everyone else appears to be moving forward while you're still staring at the fracture lines.

What bothers me about the world we have built
Sometimes I look around and think we have accidentally wandered into the plot of a ridiculous super villain movie, except there is no James Bond turning up at the last minute to blow up the secret headquarters and save everyone. There is no dramatic music, no evil mastermind stroking a cat while explaining the plan, no heroic moment where everyone suddenly realises what is happening.

R is for Ragged Toothed Shark – Uncommon Animals of the Alphabet
I have a confession to make. Sharks are one of the few animals that can still trigger a genuine, deep seated fear in me. Not a modern fear. Not the kind of fear that comes from opening a power bill or checking the balance of a mortgage. Sharks seem to reach much further back than that. They live somewhere down in the old wiring.

Kevin Bacon wants to become Kevin Bean.
It sounds like the setup for a bad dad joke, but beneath the pun sits a serious question. What kind of food system do we actually want to support? Kevin's idea of encouraging people to eat beans instead of meat on Wednesdays comes from a place I can respect. Modern industrial meat production can be a brutal machine. Animals are often treated less like living creatures and more like biological units moving through a production pipeline.

My Visual Dream Journal – Day 5
- New Beginnings - Sometimes a new beginning does not arrive quietly. Sometimes it arrives like a storm through an open window, tearing apart the rooms we thought we understood and leaving us standing in the middle of the mess, wondering what comes next. This visualisation from my Dream Journal is called New Beginnings. It explores that strange moment between what has ended and what has not yet begun.

Chocolate – My Visual Dream Journal – Day 4
There is no correct amount of chocolate. There is only the moment it stops tasting like something and starts becoming something you are doing while you are thinking about something else. I have noticed that when things feel heavy, I do not really eat chocolate. I disappear into it a bit. It becomes less about flavour and more about filling a gap that does not actually live in the stomach.

Don’t get stuck in one version of existence
The immortal jellyfish has been sitting with me a bit lately, not as some perfect symbol, more just as a strange reminder that life does not always move in a straight line. It drifts, it changes conditions, and when things shift in a way it cannot sustain, it has this uncanny ability to return to an earlier stage of itself and begin again.

The Forest Harp – My Visual Dream Journal – Day 194
Every time I sell a piece of artwork it reminds me that the most interesting part is rarely the sale itself. The interesting part is that something which began as a private thought, a half remembered dream or a strange idea inside my own head somehow finds its way into the life of somebody I will probably never meet. That connection still feels remarkable to me no matter how many times it happens.
