Very well said. In the very recent Starmer era I voted locally for Green and I was really glad she got in. I kind of assumed that Labour would have to decide - do we continue to fish in Reform's pond or do we revert to more progressive? And now Greens do this! And does Gaza give a f*CK?

Man City corruption process runs its course. UAE pulls disinvestment hissy fit. Political stand off between UK and UAE and in the fallout Brits living there get chucked out. What's not to like? Premier League gets cleaned up and Lice and Oakshitt are homeless! Result!!?

Yes and his father was big cheese in Formula 1 thirty years ago. Advertising tobacco on the cars was the norm. New(!) Labour comes in with policy of no tobacco advertising in Sport. Formula 1 says well ok but goodbye Brit GP and teams being UK based. Brave Tony caved in. "Guys trust me" well yeah

Why is there no reining in of a major media outlet whose DNA is explicitly aligned to your main challenger, and constantly briefs against your best interests, whilst breaking every OFCOM rule in impartiality? What is Nandy for? Who is she for? If Burnham wanted a reset why is she and Mahmood there?

Means testing rather than universal state pension. Slip it through the door. Ten years down the line means testing for NHS healthcare. Ten years further why should they get that for free when we have to pay? We should ALL pay. No NHS free care at the point of need becomes the inevitable result.

And then the young poor hang around some more decades and the state pension has dwindled even further year on year. It's not protecting the young, it's ripping them off ever further down the line.

This is as ill-informed as Farage suggesting Iranian terrorists may be coming across the Channel in dinghies to commit terrorist acts at Fairford. You don't know, he doesn't know

Oh I'm completely with you on that. We're already in too deep thanks to Starmer. I'm just commenting on the very strange sequence of events at Fairford. I'm keeping an open mind but the likelihood of five men being arrested under terrorism protocols and then released on bail so quickly? Hmm

It is US military real estate of the highest value both economically and strategically and it, Fairford, is on UK soil. An incident at the perimeter in the middle of the night? Of course they're working on this together. Is THIS incident the threat? Who knows. But you're sure there's no risk? Hmm

It doesn't sound so far to be remotely a rerun of those awful times. It could be that this transpires to be a lot less dangerous than the original bombs and terrorism scenario. Yet also more nuanced than the bunch of south London petrol thieves. It's easy to jump to clever theories. Better to wait

I totally get the drift and agree. But just perhaps another take - that they listened too much to what they considered "authority" and never got to develop the capacity for critical thinking based on facts not feelings.

I used to have a horrible ready reckoner that for every Israeli killed by opportunistic terrorist strikes there were thirty Palestinians systematically killed by the Israeli government war machine. God knows what the number is nowadays.

I'm sure you've posted it somewhere so apologies in advance. You seem to be saying that the responder says yes indeed that IS what UK authorities should be doing. But I can't locate. Grateful if you can help

I do recall the Professor of Medieval History there being pretty scathing of the Indyref. I think he was born a good few hundred miles south of his seat of learning.

I'm only on episode 3 but I've seen those first 3 twice as they're so worth savouring. The fade out of Ep 3 with the words scrolling up from Clare Bowditch 'The One '. Perfect juxtaposition and in spite of the song yes they do do it in the car and feel shit after. So intelligent, so well written

Other than f*CK non white Brits and particularly f*CK Muslims and totally f*CK asylum seekers, best of all let them drown. Throw in a shout for crypto money laundering and obliterate the NHS. Cut all welfare spending, environmental protection. And what do you have? Fascist Farage and his cowboys

Stories like this are horrible. 9/11 memories obviously came back recently. Long ago I thought a rules based world might make things a bit better. Obviously there are in fact two 9/11s (Allende) and the killing doesn't stop. I am so lucky to be born when and where I was.

Should we initiate an exit tax though?

Very kind and of you to respond. In truth it doesn't. It is one of some bad images and memories from long ago that some time come front of mind. The wonder of being a parent, being alive, is that there are some bad bits, and many more good bits. I hope that this sad case is tragic and not darker.

It is any family's worst nightmare. I lost my youngest daughter at a midsummer fair about 38 years ago. For five minutes we were frantic then she ran past us, we scooped her up and all once again was well. A five minute nightmare. I hope all involved including the relative get all the support needed

I would like to point out that I am not the Andy that slipped on the wet floor as I exited the shower and in an incredible piece of bad luck but perfect timing had to report to Hove A&E with an electric toothbrush firmly lodged beyond the point of no return. Battery still buzzing. Me less so.

Sing? Course he can. He was in the Soft Boys with Robyn Hitchcock. Then he moved on to the Waves you know Katrina?? Probably last time the People's Republic Of Cambridge won the Eurovision. I play the video at exactly 10:42 every Friday evening. Appropriate. Brings tears to the remains of my face

Years ago in a shared house in Brixton we were gifted a very out of tune piano. After a few days of making a horrible noise a housemate rang the RNID (D is for deaf) asking to be put in contact with a piano tuner. They thought it was a bad joke, not the loopy mistake it was

I think we would have been on the upswing from about 2011 but it was stifled by Osborne. Ofc Brexit has wiped out some 6% of GDP since. And now Trump has put the world into recession. Taxes for everyone needs to go up. Too bad Labour have spaffed first half of their tenure

What I don't get is the narrative that it's somehow stealing from younger taxpayers. Lose that lock and year by year the pension for those younger taxpayers will wither away to a far greater extent than for the limited remaining years of current pensioners.

Interesting to post this. There were no books in my house when young but I started reading Hardy when 17. My entry level. I saw here a few days ago a letter from a Ukrainian soldier to his loved one back home. Ofc there could be an equivalent Russian letter. Weird so weird us humans

Everton to win in ninety fifth minute? I used to see David Moyes at the Abbey mid 1980's. Played a competent honest game within his (slightly limited skillset). More than good enough for the level at the time. But wow, other than the kiss of death as the anointed one after Ferguson, what a career!

Ah good point. Ambivalent, but indeed you may be right. When she was competing I thought ah great cos I'm from Plymouth. Then like JKR you think whaaa? I thought you were cool, now you're like this? Ian Brown of Stone Roses morphed into a COVID dickhead. Bait and switch. So it goes

I agree with her. She says "accept they're not free are they?" Yep I accept that my taxes and fairly comfortable and safe life can stretch to helping young ones get some free food at school. I accept sharing for the long term good for all. She meant to say "except". Selfish and stupid.

Leaving aside the history of UK and US involvement in shaping Iran's path away from democracy, it's pretty weird to oppose sanctions on a regime that so enthusiastically embraces capital punishment and torture of its citizens, particularly women. Sure it hates the West. Is that enough?

It is grey though? Permission for flights at Diego Garcia and Fairford are not "No support". Countries that have come out strongly - we're not into this, like Spain - are no further on the naughty step than we are. But support Iran? How weird. Women getting raped, tortured by the state. Seriously?

Andy Blatchford @andyb28m.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
Surely it IS a part though isn't it? Fairford, Diego Garcia, intercepting incoming drones, moving HMS Dragon etc. Which kind of makes it more annoying when the narcissist complains where were you? We dug you out any number of times. Agreed re Iran. About 1000 killed by capital punishment this year

300 masked "patriots" broke into the players' dressing room at Edgbaston demanding the Pakistan team bat with more conviction in the second innings. One of them claimed "it's difficult to prove we are the master race when winning is so easy". These are legitimate concerns Jonathan Agnew agreed

More than silent. Colluded with the narrative that it was nothing to do with the interview but merely a ratings issue. It wasn't. Her listener stats were increasing at the time her bosses caved to Israeli pressure. I like weather vain be it intentional or not!

My son in law's mother is French, lived here decades, is a pharmacist, and speaks English to a very high standard of accuracy, and obv with a French accent. Day after Brexit vote English male with multiple health problems takes the package from her and says "huh we just voted to get rid of you lot"

"For balance" there should have been many more voices from the Jewish community in the UK that the BBC and other media outlets interviewed agreeing wholeheartedly with the drift of Milliband's statements. A significant number of UK Jews are appalled by settler ethnic cleansing of the West Bank

That's not in any way to imply that I don't believe that it is a genocide nor that I believe it a blood libel to suggest so. The Holocaust remains the most disgusting example of systematic torture and murder by one group of people upon another. It is still perplexing that never again loses meaning
020
Andy Blatchford @andyb28m.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
Actually I need to row that back in the interests of accuracy. It was in a speech critical of Milliband's speech and refuting claims that Israel is committing genicide

The cordon sanitaire that surrounds all things Israeli (Israeli NOT JEWISH) is a thing of wonder. I note Simon Schema referring to yesterday's pronouncement as a "blood libel" on the Jewish people. And he's a historian (with one way vision)

Is he that bloke who reckons that Israel's actions in Gaza are "proportionate" (I think that's his preferred terminology) or have I gotten him confused with other Labour MPs who call British Jews critical of the Israeli genocide as being "antisemitic"? Go get your head round that one! But yeh avoid
