As promised, here's the map of the "riding all local/frequent/connector service Wego buses in one day to at least one stop unique to that route" challenge I did yesterday just for fun! I also made a full writeup if you want more photo verification or just to hear the story: andw.me/posts/26-07-...

Love how this is getting comments despite this being the OLD run where I did only frequent service routes (but full distance) from last year! New run photos/map (all MTA routes) will be uploaded tomorrow lol

Here is my spreadsheet for every route ridden, full story with (bad) photos will be tomorrow because it's late and I'm tired lol. (missing the 18 stop on because my phone didn't capture the photo oof)

Turns out this speedrun is a lot more chaotic (in terms of running around, riding more buses, and not as much rest time just on a bus) but I do have two buses left and will be uploading timestamps with all the photos I took so it's here later tonight.

Unlike the "complete frequenty service" speedrun I did last year, I don't actually have a plan for my route this time around (it's just too hard to guess transfers without absurd padding and even then things happen), so I really don't even know if this is hypothetically possible.

Today's WeGo Speedrun is to ride every non-RTA (so no Star and express) routes to at least one unique stop, which includes 27 total frequent/local/connector service routes.

Nashville WeGo's gonna add 6 new frequent service routes sometime in the future, which is going to make speedruns...interesting (way longer than the current 8 hours, I'd guess 12 at the minimum). It should be celebrated since it means better transit here though!

Also talked to Freddie and he said this whole thing was pretty cool. I'm excited for the more BRT-style corridors with CHYM that could speed this up a lot, but what should I do next?

After some calculations in Google Sheets with the GTFS data (thanks map.transitnownash.org), I calculated the journey to be about 95.5 miles in terms of buses!

Update on QuickTicket machine issues: At the very start of the work week, they emailed me asking for which machine was broken, and even gave me a little fare credit for my issues, even though the transactions at the machine had been reversed automatically. Very nice and responsive!

I'd say this has all come to an end, so I wouldn't expect anything more from this thread. It was a very fun time, and now that I've done this, I feel more confident in getting with friends to finally play Jet Lag Hide and Seek around Nashville someday!

Weird QuickTicket machine update: The transactions got reversed automatically it seems, so I got my $2 back! For now I'd recommend using the machines upstairs (goofy windows error sounds and all) at Central until they fix it. I don't need a card since StrIDe is free for MNPS, so this's just for fun.

It's the one in Nashville, TN in the US. They rebranded a while back, but clearly didn't do any research for other places using the name. (Forgot to include that, can't edit posts RIP)

Today I did a "transit speedrun" of the WeGo frequent service network! Why? Why not! I had to fully cover all 8 routes from start to end or vice versa, and make some tight connections! I documented everything here on Bluesky across all eight hours, but here's the condensed collage:
A grid of photos, primarily consisting of pictures taken of public transit buses from the outside at a stop, pictures of front of the bus taken from the inside, and of streets/bike infrastructure.A map of a bus system with routes taken outlined, with big text "95 Miles, 7:54:02, 14 Buses" on top, and "Goal: Cover every WeGo frequent service route (8 of them) by passing by every stop at least once to the end of the route" with "was fully documented on @theandreww.bsky.social" on the bottom. Off to the side is "Buses Taken:" with a list of buses and stop times/numbers as seen below:

3 inbound, 1907, 7:00 WB/Harding, 7:26 central
7 outbound, 1916, 7:30 Central 9, 8:01 Hillsboro TC
7 inbound 1916, 8:09 Hillsboro TC, 8:33 Central
52 outbound 2310, 8:45 Central 19, 9:10 Walmart
52 inbound 2309, 9:18 Walmart, 9:36 Lafayette
55 outbound 123, 9:37 Lafayette l, 10:12 hickory hollow
55 inbound 2202, 10:13 hickory hollow, 11:13 central
56 outbound 2209, 11:25 central 18, 12:20 Rivergate
56 inbound 2207, 12:20 Rivergate, 12:32 Madison
79 westbound 1824, 12:42 Madison, 12:54 Walmart
23 inbound 1820, 12:56 Walmart, 1:32 central
22 northbound 1804, 1:35 central 10, 1:55 past NNTC
22 southbound 1817, 1:58 NNTC 9, 2:13 central
50 outbound 2508, 2:15 central 1, 1:55 Walmart

Also here's all the routes I took compiled into one list. Times are rough (based on when I took the photo getting on/off a bus, not when they started moving), and are probably off a few minutes. Format is "[Route Number] [Trip Direction] [Vehicle Number], [Start Time/Stop], [End Time/Stop]"

Andrew W @andw.me · 01/11/2025
Based on some rough line drawing in Google Maps, this journey took almost 100 miles of buses to do! (around 95 according to this estimate)

AND TIME! Got off at the Charlotte Walmart at 2:55. My stopwatch gives a precise time of 7:54:02 to cover EVERY frequent service route in the WeGo network!

Guy on the bus complained it’s too hot on the bus (which to be fair, it is on this one), and then proceeded to open the emergency exit on the roof. I mean no alarm or anything went off, but he could’ve just opened a window?

Andrew W @andw.me · 31/10/2025
Ran over and caught the 50 to charlotte pike. (2:15) This is my last route and then I’ve done it!

Sadly didn’t get much time to appreciate the new NNTC, but it looks pretty cool based on what I saw.

Once I did get back, I got onto the 22 back to downtown. (1:58)

Didn’t realize the 22 turns into a 14 after the North Nashville Transit Center! Had to get off at the next stop and run back. (1:55)

These bike lanes are pretty amazing by standards here. Could use protected intersections and a curb for most of it, but the current road standards don’t include those.

Andrew W @andw.me · 31/10/2025
Haven’t seen one of these older style bus signs in a while. Modern ones have the routes that stop at them, but not here for some reason. Still more modern than the really old “Nashville MTA” ones.

Got on a 23 Bordeaux to North Nashville Transit Center (1:35)

Also got a real quick ticket card with a dollar on from an ACTUALLY working machine, because why not (using student id for everything, just wanted it because why not)

Apple Maps doesn’t really let you specify that you’re already on a bus easily, so I have to do goofy stuff like say “directions from Taco Bell to Walmart”. Not really needed, since I can just use map.transitnownash.org instead, but stop notifications are nice.
100
Andrew W @andw.me · 31/10/2025
Just got on the actual 79 westbound I needed. (12:42)
100
Andrew W @andw.me · 31/10/2025
A 79 pulled up but it turned out to be one heading north to turn into a 76 and the driver got confused and had to get out of the bus and ask the 56 driver for help.
100
Andrew W @andw.me · 31/10/2025
Got off 56 at Madison (12:32)

Hey for these bike lanes at least there’s a buffer? I still stand by the fact that stroads and this kind of development are not friendly to anyone or anything except cars.
100
Andrew W @andw.me · 31/10/2025
Correction: it continued to the actual Rivergate station, where we switched onto an actual 56 inbound since the other bus was technically an outbound until that point.
100
Andrew W @andw.me · 31/10/2025
56 outbound arrived at final Rivergate/Walmart station and had turned into a 56 inbound, which I stayed on.

Bus just ran a red light after it turned red a fair bit before we got there. Oop

Not much has happened. Heard some people talk about how stupid it is that Tennessee isn’t paying for SNAP once it looses funding tomorrow. Some kids with Halloween costumes got on the bus.
