Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Shoutout to Jedi in the first 20: constantly adjusting the shape, great distribution, and made two surging runs off the ball (but nobody found him) 011
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 30/09/2026After that anthem, I have my doubts on this data… 010
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 26/09/2026What’s not to like? Excellent pass from Robinson in the build-up, dangerous service from Berhalter, predatory instincts from Hall 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Biggest takeaway from the 1st half is we’ll be fun this cycle against teams outside the Top 15-20 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Tommy Thompson walked so Tsakiris could run 020
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 26/08/2026This is outstanding work - love the interactive viz at the end of the article, too 001
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 16/08/2026Late summer reading sorted out! I’ve read @paultenorio.bsky.social and @leanderalphabet.bsky.social for years - looking forward to both of these. 0123
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 15/08/2026This is outstanding and well worth your time 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Gaze upon the pure MLS heritage of that midfield, @futi.live 010
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Like two players away from recreating Fulhamerica 060
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Freeman in prettyyyyyy good company here with his ability to play quick passes (via @scoutedftbl.com) 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Yeah, need Tsakiris back ASAP (data from @americansocceranalysis.com) 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 22/07/2026A goal for the next cycle becomes: do we have a critical mass of players with the perception and technical ability to manage these moments? 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 22/07/2026The 2nd is Argentina's moment in the 15th minute. Gordon is surrounded by 6 defenders. Then, MacAllister, Simeone, and Messi advance from their 18 to the attacking third in 6 passes off like 12 touches, w/Alvarez lurking to collect the misplayed pass. This feels further away... 100
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 22/07/2026The 1st is England's moment in the 19th minute. Good patience from Elliott, rotation from Gordon and Bellingham, quality entry from Guehi, outstanding pass from Kane to Rogers, James makes a good overlap but final ball isn't there. I don't think we're *that* far away from executing this... 100
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Catching up on Scuffed, and thought @sanjaysujan.bsky.social made a fantastic point about building a midfield and style of play for beyond the Round of 16. There were two moments during England-Argentina that I noticed that reinforce these points... 120
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 20/07/2026Just caught up after the final: this is a brilliant article from @colinmillar.bsky.social on the linguistic and cultural understanding of sufferingnytimes.comThe misunderstood art of ‘suffering’ and why it may be central to this World Cup finalThis is the first World Cup final between two nations which speak the same language since 1930 — and one word may dominate the discourse 152
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Manzambi - each World Cup needs a U21 player who has a breakout tournament just before a transfer. Even better for the narrative that he was a sub the first 2 games! Villa didn’t buy him solely for this past month, but it all creates a sense of momentum for emerging stardom. 001
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 15/07/2026Excellent analysis from Neel and Kim here. Love this viz, too, showing how Mbappe/Barcola required constant attention. 030
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Like, of course I wanted to beat Belgium, but there's a whole other level above that, too 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Bringing a talent like Pedri off the bench is borderline incomprehensible 110
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 12/07/2026Thought Argentina’s shape was fascinating throughout the game states. Switzerland contained Messi well enough 11v11 010
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 07/07/2026I keep returning to the U20 World Cup as the most analogous situation to this summer: - Won group comfortably - Still exited at same stage - Style of play looked better and increased margins - Talent level deeper - Still a step or two to take before title contender 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 05/07/2026Using @futi.live data, a stylistic look at USMNT progression so far. Who is progressing via passing, carrying, or receiving? - The all-action volume from McKennie and Tillman is remarkable - Dest and Pulisic well-rounded - Balogun and Pepi providing the reference points in attack 1162
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 02/07/2026Love this from Ream (and @pcattry.bsky.social is killing it this World Cup) 020
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 02/07/2026Back on form last night. Our best defense remains our offense 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Opportunity for #USMNT against Bosnia: look at how a fairly basic rotation from Qatar disorganizes the defensive shape. Now picture Balogun, McKennie, Tillman, and Dest in these roles... 020
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Final ball wasn't quite there, but this was a scanning clinic 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Ream could have done a remake of this gem youtu.be/lAmv5AENebQ?...youtu.bePert Plus Television Commercial 1994 Featuring Paul Caligiuri World Cup SoccerYouTube video by Analog Memories 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 20/06/2026Most impressive thing for me in the first two games - we kept our foot on the gas despite the early goals. This suffocated the attack for Paraguay and Australia, mitigating a potential weakness in defense (data from @futi.live) 1142
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 19/06/2026Running back the shape from the last 20 min against Belgium? 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 18/06/2026Interesting double jeopardy call there against Qatar. Would you rather have the penalty and yellow card than play a man-down for ~55 minutes? 010
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Never meant to make your stopper cry My shot’s nullified a trillion times 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 15/06/2026These Spanish pass maps by time are wild. Swapping Cucurella and Torres for Williams and Yamal probably solves some problems on the wings. 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 14/06/2026What an EPIC Cantor call on that Curacao goal! 000
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Making this my reaction for anybody hating on last night 0111
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 13/06/2026I've slept on it and feel confident saying that was our best win since Spain 2009. 010
Charles Wilson @andthenthehex.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Incredible, couldn’t have asked for anything more. Reyna’s goal clutch if we’re 2-0 along with Turkey headed into the 3rd game, too. 020
