Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 4hThat's right -- something about the whole organization of the Death Camp was DEEPLY DISTURBING. One day when I made crying children eat dirt soup out of a pit near the barbwire, I noticed something. That barbwire was rusty. We had a security problem. 0212
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 5hAgainst the backdrop of "No, my baby, my baby!" and all that stuff, I often sat down and began to think. Really think. Something about all this felt off. But what? Then one day when I saw Kommandant Klaus yelling "Ihr feedback ist Kaputt!!!" at a coworker, something clicked. It was organizational. 1241
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 5hGuys, I'm quitting my job as a Death Camp guard. The organization's culture is broken and there are also ethical concerns I can now vaguely sense. I loved working there for three years, standing guard, and guarding, and getting paid, but recently... Anyways, I'm writing a book about my time there. 2617
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I guess it must have been back when you drew your designs of graph paper and poked the bytes in? Common on early '80s machines. MacPaint was 84 and DP was 85, but it was still done years after. I recently came across an old notebook with mystery numbers I had written up, and it was 8x8 characters... 120

Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 13/09/2026A notorious anti-immigrant party /seem to be/ be losing votes (some 3%, which is a lot since we have 8 parties sharing the 100%). Surprising if you model your expectations on e.g. Germany rn. 040
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 13/09/2026So far not the Swedish election result I was expecting to develop (50% votes in). When a party is firmly geared a certain way and there are some pretty exotic international developments and concerns butting in, maybe that siphons voters off... I don't know. 180
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Or rather, the extra stuff used map coordinates too, but there was some kind of formulaic address truncation of the map address space into a smaller distorted shape... a limit which likely much came to dictate how the puzzles worked because the designers then couldn't place stuff just anywhere. 000
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 13/09/2026It's interesting to do these without holding them in memory (other than the tiles on & around the current screen). BBC Exile apparently calculated everything based on just the tile coordinates, with exception lists for block-offs, hand placed tiles, and items which used a fast lookup method (hash?). 101
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Car is going a bit sideways here because the magnet taped under isn't centered. With a string (preferably thicker than the sewing thread I used here), it's best to rubberize the belt driving drive wheel for friction. I had to add a rubberband into the belt for tension. It often snags. 080
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Can you motorize N-scale cars with just garbage? Yeah, kind of. The tricky part is getting them around the loop-wheel at the ends. It might work best to use a wider turn, and maybe dangle the metal/magnet on a drag-line so the belt can be all-belt. 1181
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 10/09/2026One thing I don't quite like about digital brush engines, here Krita, is how crossing lines get this distracting dot in them--something which is less pronounced IRL I think. Haven't found a tweak for it despite looking. Might have to do with the physical structure of paper & how deposits saturate. 4250
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 09/09/2026There's such an over-eagerness to fill empty surfaces with constant meaningless, low-vocabulary babble. No place to rest, which I'd often rather. Details can be useful commentary. Foundation is basic form; relations within designs. This seems a shroud of neither. 140
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 03/09/2026My experience as a concept artist apparently in the industry is being on mood boards everywhere unknowingly and finding out years later from someone with the actual job. I guess I've been... replaced. 130
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 27/08/2026From what I can tell the numbers aren't too bad. Makes sense for a mech to be about tank-density, and then you can also say they can float or sink depending on mood or some extra add-on. Of course, a spindly interpretation would be taller than a chonky one, but it's within margin of fuzziness. 010
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 27/08/2026(M1 Abrams might be about water density in my rough calculations.) 000
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 27/08/2026I wonder what the density values work out as. A mech should be roughly 2.5-3.5 times itself as a cube. If an 50T Enforcer is 11.5M tall, and 3,2 times itself as a cube, then that's (11.5/3.2)³ = nearly 50m³ or the density of water. Sometimes in games Ton is volume and not weight though. 210
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Whenever I do a project I try to limit myself to the earlier installations lest I be overwhelmed but content and lore patches and sub-canons. But usually I pick something I like from the newer stuff. Cyber-cats? 220
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 27/08/2026I kind of used varied solutions. The knee either goes as a bulge on the thigh or shin, is missing, or a seamless extension of a plate, or it's a more complex articulated third part. I guess in reality metal robots rarely had articulated knees due to the weight/sagging. 020
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 27/08/2026The designs are mainly from TRO 3025, early print. I don't know much about the BT/MW universe though. It appears there are no heights given, only tons, which is smart if you want to avoid giving bad estimates. Given how mass scales, these designs are likely samey-sized. 20T -> 80T is x1.6 height. 1160
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 27/08/2026For my re-designs here I'm thinking of using three design rules: > Limbs generally have a smaller front facing area and wider side facing area, i.e squished. > Limbs have more mass closer to the torso, though foot area can still be big. > Die-cast enamel painted toy feel. 1200
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Battletech sketches, going more for the vintage look, less trunky and square-plated. There's quite a bit of difference between the early designs and later "refresh", which I think became greeble and silhouette homogenized close to its detriment. 618019
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Right robot, wrong painting, but now I'm not quite sure if the painting I saw even existed as it seems hard to find. 000
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Not quite sure where they came from, but it's safe to say she's influential. That style hasn't been too uncommon, except for in the late 80s, 90s and 00s. Made a bit of a comeback later I think. They kind of work in the movie because it suggests The Company is cost cutting everywhere. 010
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 26/08/2026I'm quite sure it's the Trebuchet. Still looking for the painting. It's not the one with people in the foreground though. The more I think about it, the less I'm sure I'm not creating a false memory of it... 010
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Ah Victor... Trebuchet... not really sure because of the differing presentations. The painting I saw looked like this iirc. I scrolled by it so fast and really only noticed the helmet. 2120
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 26/08/2026I think it looked something like this... very Darthy, and from that era when they weren't so bulky. 3150
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 26/08/2026It's so hard to tell because the designs fluctuate so wildly with era. I'm not seeing the painting in that gallery though. 010
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 26/08/2026What's the name of that battletech mech with the Darth Vader neck-guard helmet? Possibly late 1980s design. I saw a painting of it but forgot to save... 7100

Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 18/08/2026I got Wargame Construction Set because it sounded creative, kind of like SEUCK, but it didn't even have a pixel editor for the units and just ran on some ugly SSI engine. Did have a really nice cover though. Hugo was a bit embarrassing but I guess fit for purpose. 020

Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 18/08/2026I remember getting games based on just the title even. Sometimes that was all you had to go on when ordering from tiny font ads/lists in magazines. It was also the case with Public Domain floppy disks, though sometimes you had a little bit of text description for those. 110
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 18/08/2026"How exactly were the Nazis bad?" "The death camps? The war and the destruction?" "Yes, but besides that, how exactly were they bad?" "Uh..." "You can't even think of a thing!" 1250
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Yeah that arcade game was the first that came to mind, but I just couldn't remember its name. It looks quite nice indeed. 010
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 16/08/2026Were early 80s diving games the only good underwater games? Anyways, wanted to pixel plop one in DPIII. Ah, there were those sink bomb ones too. I can't remember which ones I played--it was so long ago now. 1371
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 13/08/2026I'd probably get booed off a stage if I mentioned all of mine, but it's a lot of the absolute classic, foundational 90s and early 00s games with a story focus. I was never much for having my path, expression and creativity controlled and limited in games and that period felt quite focused on that. 010
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 11/08/2026I have two LEGO 4V Technic motors, similar to the ones in the 1977 set 870. They are very screechy and hard to turn. There's a stackexchange post with people failing at disassembly. I didn't manage either, but oiling the ends of the exposed shafts did help quite a bit, I can report to the internet! 1110
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 10/08/2026A haphazard sketch. There are so many ways to do it, but it's always fun with front facing cassettes. Though, if put on the top the front will have space for other fun stuff. It's hard to experiment with the layout when working on paper... though I suppose cutting elements out and rearranging works. 0260
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Can't be a 1541 disk drive though as it's not that great of an implementation and it's fairly deep, making it hard to cubify. Floppy drives were fairly compact just as they were phased out, as seen in e.g. Sony Mavicas and cheap USB external drives. Don't think the 5.25 inch drives were ever slim'd. 1100
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Getting vague visual ideas for a new hardware concept: C64-cube. The front panel could be quite interesting visually, featuring a datasette unit, with counter, maybe VU-meter, 5.25" floppy drive, Cartridge slot, and blinky lights. Borrow a bit from the SX case. Carrying handle. Blue trim. 1120

Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 05/08/2026However, since poison is a measure against automated scraping you might as well just make a separate document that gets vacuumed up. Hiding stuff in seemingly normal text is more useful for easter egg shenanigans, copyright/origin notices, teachers and authors deploying defensive prompt measures. 040
Arne @androidarts.bsky.social · 05/08/2026Whether the text becomes unreadable depends on how and what you lace the text with. To a blind user, frequent completely random poison ( word nonsense ) would be the worst. A friendlier way to include that would be to isolate it to chapters that a character politely asks the reader to skip over. 140
