when I was in Galapagos in 2016 I found the best empanadas I've ever had being sold on the street out of someone's kitchen window. I added them to google maps and now they have hundreds of reviews and have expanded to a full blown restaurant, still right outside their kitchen window.

Now at every ad break in a WaPo story there's a "Dive deeper" button you can click to get more information about the story that an ai predicts is relevant. Or, hypothetically, you could continue reading the article to get more information that the author of the article thought was relevant.

Is that good?
Fund manager and former Morgan Stanley investor Ruchir Sharma warned in a recent piece for the Financial Times that the US economy has turned into “one big bet on AI.”

“AI companies have accounted for 80 per cent of the gains in US stocks so far in 2025,” he wrote. “That is helping to fund and drive US growth, as the AI-driven stock market draws in money from all over the world, and feeds a boom in consumer spending by the rich.”

In case you're interested in a large, peer reviewed, and recent study on the effect of acetaminophen use during pregnancy on children's autism & ADHD outcomes, here's one. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
Key points from linked paper.
Question Does acetaminophen use during pregnancy increase children’s risk of neurodevelopmental disorders?

Findings In this population-based study, models without sibling controls identified marginally increased risks of autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) associated with acetaminophen use during pregnancy. However, analyses of matched full sibling pairs found no evidence of increased risk of autism (hazard ratio, 0.98), ADHD (hazard ratio, 0.98), or intellectual disability (hazard ratio, 1.01) associated with acetaminophen use.

Meaning Acetaminophen use during pregnancy was not associated with children’s risk of autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in sibling control analyses. This suggests that associations observed in other models may have been attributable to confounding.

Saw a deer with an ear tag and a very large radio collar at Fort Totten Metro station. I see deer there regularly, but I've never noticed one with any kind of tag before. Also not sure why that collar is so huge, wonder if it's recording data locally.

This was a really interesting one. Makes a compelling case that the Mongol empire was essentially the start of the Renaissance and that most of the basic stuff us westerners know about them is just propaganda from centuries after the fact.
