Very unusual for the head of NATO's military committee to comment like this - a clear response to Trump's remark about NATO troops in Afghanistan, even if it's not explicitly mentioned. The fact he's done so suggests the strength of feeling in NATO military circles about that remark.

At NATO HQ today, I asked Hungarian President Katalin Novák about concerns Budapest is too close to Moscow politically. Answer: "I can assure you that there cannot be and should not be any relation between Hungary and Russia which would undermine our commitment with our allies" in NATO or the EU.
