It’s so disheartening to see all the last govt’s work on waste minimisation gradually get undone and abandoned by this one. Industry had 4+ years lead-in time to find alternatives, and instead the govt has just given them a permanent free pass. Whenever I think they couldn’t aim any lower…

This is such a shame and a short-sighted decision. This policy was designed to phase out hard-to-recycle plastic types in favour of recyclable alternatives. Would have kept millions (billions?) of plastic items out of landfills and reduced contamination of the plastics that do get recycled.

A 36-year-old fire truck broke down today responding to a fire in Waitotara. 🚨 With Whanganui’s primary MAN truck already broken, every appliance in service is now 30+ years old. Off-duty crews were called back to cover the gap.
