When a show only has 10 chances to do great things (as opposed to the old 26) you don't get so many passes for mediocrity. Every great series out there is planned and executed to try and be as strong as possible. SNW just decided to go with big ideas that they failed to build out of their gimmicks.

But when it is meh, they tend to call it "fine" or "fun" or "you can't complain about a show that once had the E caught by a giant green space hand." Then some blame the FANS for taking things too seriously, failing to reconcile the few times they fawned over the greatness that defines the series.

So, how was this latest season of #strangenewworlds? I listened to my favorite video essayists (I hate to call them critics) talk about it and I noticed a common theme. When Trek is GREAT, they talk about an episode like it is a literary work and say things like "this is what makes Trek special!"+

Someone asked why it seems grandparents treat grandkids better than kids they raised. Is it guilt, they ask. I say it could be, but it's also that sometimes you don't realize all of what you want to say or how to act until your kids are grown up, and then you regret it. Grands help make up for that.
