Every couple of months I think about blowing up my completely serviceable two 27" monitor setup for a single enormous ultra or super ultrawide. Has anyone done this, specifically on Mac, and emerged victorious on the other side?

I've trained people up on FCP, Resolve, and CapCut. Between those three I have no need for anything video-related from Adobe.

One of the best simple kindnesses is when you order cheese at a deli and the slicer offers you the first piece to show you the the cut width.

Apple, what the hell is up with some of my icons in Tahoe? Including two of your very prominently "Pro" apps?

Ruin a song by adding the word “literally” to the title. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Literally Kill Me

If it also helps, I’d say tonally it skews closer to Parks and Rec despite being a spiritual sequel to The Office!

Binged through all of #ThePaper this weekend and I gotta say: this is maybe the strongest season 1 of any Greg Daniels show to date. I legit think this cast, writing, and topic hit its stride within like 2 episodes. It's great!

That's how I hope folks in some of the more popular Video Game -> Filmed franchises approached it: TLOU, Fallout, Arcane, etc. Could also be that the movie industry is a touch salty that games make SO MUCH MORE money than them. Though with all the layoffs you'd think the industry was hurting. 😭

I may jump over to Phantom Pain/MGS V after this just to see if it’s a me problem. Maybe I don’t have the patience I once did for this stuff?

Andrew @andrewgormley.com · 01/09/2025

I realize some of these these were true of the original as well, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense to fully modernize the POV and play style and not smooth over some of these rough edges.

It’s death by a thousand paper cuts: The constant food and injury stuff, Snake not hugging a wall to peek around but rather totally cornering, likewise Snake seemingly wanting to hang off nearly every ledge I even brush up against, not being able to hold up/“Freeze!” an enemy while crouched, etc

Andrew @andrewgormley.com · 01/09/2025

Fully willing to realize this could be a “get good” scenario, but I am finding the act of playing MGS Delta pretty frustrating and is kind of sullying my memory of original. It is sort of an unfair comparison, but playing both Death Stranding games recently may be coloring this opinion.

Get well, Mr. Mayor. Whoever did this is dethpicable.

On the evening of August 30, 2025 after taking a wrong turn somewhere near Albuquerque, Mayor Giuliani was involved in a motor vehicle accident. He was flagged down by a giant male rabbit dressed up as an attractive female rabbit who identified themself as having witnessed a “moyder”. Mr. Giuliani remained on scene until a duck and a pig dressed as Old English bobbys arrived.Following this incident, while traveling on the highway, Mayor Giuliani drove into what he thought was a tunnel, but which turned out to be a painting on the side of a mountain. Mayor Giuliani’s vehicle was crushed into the shape of accordion bellows, which emitted musical notes as they expanded and contracted . A flattened Mr. Guilini waddled free from beneath the wreckage, his enlarged teeth emerging from his mouth in the shape of piano keys.HIs business partner was promptly contacted, and he was admitted to Acme Looniversity Hospital, curiously under the care of the same rabbit he encountered earlier. That’s all, folks.F. I would really love Mac-native versions of all of them... except Teams... but it's never going to happen because why have devs dedicated to excellent apps on multiple platforms when you can have a mediocre, slow, bloated, resource-intensive one that works on them all?

Andrew @andrewgormley.com · 27/08/2025

I don't know why it took me so long but I've finally given up on using these janky-ass Electron wrapper apps and gone all-in on the Safari > Add to Dock webapp method. Hey (email), Basecamp, Discord, Teams, Framer, etc All of them now are just webapp icons in my dock.

Yeah, it's so simple once you really consider it. Utah and Jazz are like Ketchup and Mustard, Spaghetti and Meatballs, and other things that definitely, absolutely are mentioned in the same breath.

100

Andrew @andrewgormley.com · 14/08/2025

Crossword puzzle creators love two things: the word “eras” and giving clues like “Jazz, on the scoreboard” The latter of which I always look up because why the hell would I know Utah even has a basketball team, let alone what their abbreviation is?

What if we stop the tax cuts at people making over 10 million so not everyone loses their healthcare? No. What about 100 million? No. What about 500 million? No. But people are going to die? No and smiles while saying it.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

They make less expensive versions of this thing that don't have a fan or Thunderbolt, but in my testing—I bought and returned quite a few—both of those things matter if you're looking for peak performance, especially during long renders or exports.

For the record: it was not recorded in 16,000fps nor does the downloaded video display in that format, but clearly something in the metadata is messed up. It registers as 16,000fps in Final Cut, Resolve, and ffmpeg 🫠

BS The Legend of Zelda (1995) was an adventure RPG by Nintendo on the Super Famicom. It's a remake of the original NES game and broadcast by St. GIGA via the Satellaview service. The land of Hyrule is under threat from Ganon's evil! But instead of Link saving the day, it's you! (a rebuilt thread)
