Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 05/10/2026My Dad has his feet up for a couple of weeks following a trip to the hospital so I sent him a copy of @doctorow.pluralistic.net’s Reverse Centaur book to pass the time. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Algorithms have been manipulating the human genomics for at least 20 years through dating sites. Gen Z is heavily machine edited. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Anyone who has to clean the gunk out of the bottom of a robot vacuum tray or empty the dirty water tank knows we are already slaves to our machines. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Wouldn't be nice if the RBA decided that it would boost everyone's morale and surprise us with no interest rate rise tomorrow? 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I fear this isn’t going the way the labour government hoped it would. Despite ABC’s best efforts, the dialogue has been much less about AI alignment and much more about the shite engineering of Australian online services. Which it has to be said, is a surprise to nobody. 010
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I mean, what must their post-it note wall look like? “Well here I can see a cluster of ideas around mass bank fraud - now put your sticky dot on your favourite idea”. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I can’t help think that there’s never a dull day going to work in the Kremlin. 100
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 22/09/2026We’ll all be bored to death sitting on some kind of advisory group long before we’re turned into paper clips, bicycles or pelicans by AI. It’s just going to be advisory groups all the way down. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Perhaps getting to well formatted, style sheets with a considered cascade does need AGI? 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I’m confident AI tooling for web dev will get better but until then reading the code is going to be painful. 100
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I’m dating myself here but building for the web with AI brings back many of the frustrations I had with Dreamweaver? 110
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Is wanting one of these mats that go on your car dashboard finally proving that I’m no longer cool (or perhaps never was). 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Sitting in the car with any Apple device on a nice day in Australia usually means it overheats long before you have to worry about the battery running out. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I don’t normally have issues with new iOS releases but so far with iOS 27 I can’t swipe between screens in spring board, the audio controls don’t show up in a playing podcast, swiping down doesn’t do anything, CarPlay freezes in my car and a few other niggles. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I found out that Tim, a sculptor/artist that I met at my local cafe died this week. We chatted every day and from his stories and the photos he showed me, he had lived a full, eclectic life. I’ll miss our conversations. A reminder that life, no matter how full, is short. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 17/09/2026I hurt my back slipping my foot into my croc the other day. If it wasn’t so sore and pathetic it would be funny. 010
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 13/09/2026I nearly couldn’t send a parcel internationally from the post office today because I didn’t know the recipients email address. I used a version of mine in the end. Stupid. I won’t go into how expensive it was to send or how unhelpful staff were. 001
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 11/09/2026P.s. it’s lovely to have a chat with someone again post twitter, I often wonder if anyone reads this stuff. 110
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I agree. I don’t lament the good old days of programming, This epoch we’re entering is incredible, I wish I was 20 years younger, but I do find the overt greed gross. I have yet to get my thoughts well articulated but I would strongly disagree that so far it’s been a net win for inclusion. 210

Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Finally, after 5 years of being in business my company nearly has a website. Don’t get excited though, I’m pretty sure I won’t like it by Monday. 100

Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Cafe sofas are like swimming pools you enjoy them but try very hard not to think about what’s in them. 010
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 06/09/2026We might as well give china access to the other half? 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 06/09/2026I got some Bluetooth swim headphones. Everytime my head dips beneath the water it sort of unsurprisingly but still annoyingly cuts out. It’s turned my swim into a guess the song between strokes session. Fortunately I can also put MP3’s directly on it. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 06/09/2026This is true. Also service availability has gone down hill too. Many tokens and dropped responses. You still have to pay for the tokens you did use/get even if the response is truncated. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Who’s excited about the Silo season 3 finale today? I was wary of the memory loss plot and drift from the books but it’s been outstanding. Hat off to @hughhowey.com and the production team what an amazing achievement. 020
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 04/09/2026In other happy news it’s the 4th day of spring here in Australia and we’re already at 31°C. 011
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Individually, all these execs think they’re super smart thinking of ways to raise prices while still reporting record profits to investors. Collectively they’re screwed as us poor sooks are all out of money. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 04/09/2026There is nothing immune to enshittification. We are just frogs sitting in the pot on the stove. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 04/09/2026With interest rates, energy prices. Groceries. Utilities etc costs all increasing exponentially. You know what’s not even remotely on my priority list? An Apple smart home device. 010
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 31/08/2026I’m very much in this boat with you. I am very good at making other people money, mostly for free. 010
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Good grief. Who? I may as well just go get my slippers. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 31/08/2026There’s a lot going on at the moment that feels like we’re going through a transition of generations, an epoch shift maybe. It’s quite unsettling for a generation x’er like me. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 31/08/2026We got a new car recently and the screen in it is so bright that at night it makes it hard to see the road. It also absolutely shat itself so badly when it thought I was speeding past a camera in a school zone (I wasn’t) that it nearly *caused* a crash. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 31/08/2026One thing that continues to catch me out is how slow and error prone the openrouter API can be for large scale data processing. Especially using structured outputs. Hopefully some stripe money will make this better. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 31/08/2026@tailscale.com continue to impress. I thought this article was an exemplar of how to open source something but still be commercial. tailscale.com/blog/tailcattailscale.comTailcat: An open-source CLI for Tailscale’s WireGuard®, NAT traversal, and DERPTailcat connects clients and servers using Tailscale’s WireGuard®, NAT traversal, and DERP data plane, with no Tailscale control plane or accounts. 074
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 31/08/2026I was explaining to someone today that the reason I prefer my writing over LLM edited versions of my writing is because it is crappy, and wrong, and lazy in places. Just like me. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 31/08/2026Do you remember how DeepSeek wiped 2/3 of the value off NVIDIA stock in an afternoon? I wonder if an NVIDIA owned huggingface would have allowed that? 010
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 31/08/2026I got some bluetooth/mp3 swimming headphones - first use today. Quite excited. 🏊♂️ 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 30/08/2026I think it’s safe to say the wildcard round was a success for the AFL. Two really fun games to watch. Probably more so because Port weren’t in them. 000
Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 30/08/2026Silo, even three seasons in, is outstanding. Can’t wait to see how this season wraps up. 000

Andrew @andrewdotcom.bsky.social · 28/08/2026I think it says a lot about the way my mind works but what I read initially was “no testicle”. It took a few try’s to see “notes control”. Eitherway looks useful and I will give it a try. 000
