The world is a different place from February 2025.

Yes, but which is worse?

What? Americans murder each other at an alarming rate. You kill children in their schools. You execute criminals and those wrongly convicted of crimes and you tell me not to embarrass myself further? You are no better than Saudi Arabia.

Lucky you.

It really isn’t. No country in Western Europe retains the death penalty. It is barbaric and uncivilised. If you think live streaming it is worse than ending the life of a criminal then you have become unsensitised to what is being done in your name. What if the person executed is innocent?

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 1h
If you are not offended by execution at a gut level I don’t see why you should be offended by the opportunity to watch it. And who knows - they might cock it up like the last state execution. If it is a pay per view event you might get your money back. *** the issue is the death penalty itself ***

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 1h
The problem isn’t the live-streaming of the execution.

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 1h
They did. It was shit and only lasted one season.

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 1h
You should buy the book “How to die with £1 in your bank account”.

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 2h
The live-streaming of it is not the main issue here. It is the barbarity of the death sentence in the first place. You’ve still got to finish off the execution of the woman that survived the other day. It is grotesque and you are no better than Saudi Arabia in this respect.

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 2h
Did you not execute people under Obama and Biden? Only the live-streaming of it doesn’t seem to me to be the main issue, here.

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 2h
Just a thought: the bad thing about live-streaming a firing squad execution isn’t the live-streaming bit. Your country has been twisted for far longer than Donald Trump has been in charge.

It didn’t defend Israel from the 7 October attack.

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 2h
What about the women they didn’t manage to murder? Will they livescreen her in front of a firing squad as well? Has America morphed into Saudi Arabia?

How many of the people who live in England can trace their ancestry back in this country an entire millennium and what does that prove? Are they more worthy than the rest of us? What if they are all of the thick racist right wingers on the east coast? What if they are the aristos? Does it matter?

A neighbour once made her daughter go to a fancy dress party with tree branches strapped to her, with various boots tied to the branches. Nobody had any idea what the girl was supposed to be but her mother thought it was genius. Boots have branches everywhere.

Hardly anyone in this country is ethnically English and it absolutely does not matter. There is nothing intrinsically good about being English and certainly nothing better about it than being another ethnicity. Who cares whether Boris Johnson is English or not? Or Rees Mogg or Farage or Braverman?

I’d like to think that was a moral stance and not becuase the party is currently led by a woman pretending not to be Nigerian.

You’ve disappointed me. I thought the law was finally catching up with the custard bin bag, for a moment.

Are the two connected?

Polanski doesn’t decide Green policy, and in the vanishingly unlikely event that he became PM he would be in hock to the cranks who currently decide Green policy.

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I think she expends too much brain power on trying to hide her Nigerian accent that there is nothing left to process the actual questions she is asked.

Nah… she hasn’t got her lipstick on, dar dar dar, dar dar dar
000
Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
But what does that have to do with the Green Party? Why does it need to have a policy on it at all? Does it have a policy on Russia, North Korea, Trump?

Start a revolution.

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
So what are you doing about it???

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The Green Party has shot itself in the foot over Zionism. The fact that the MPs and senior members have distanced themselves from it it good, but only serves to highlight how the party is open to manipulation by activists / cranks (depending on your viewpoint).

Most sports would be better if grouped, not into women and men, but size and strength, like horses are.

A few years ago I bought a jigsaw of yours as a present for someone. They looked at it with a curled lip and I’ve never wanted to take back a present more than I did then. I’ve asked for it in their will in the unlikely event that they die before me and that you do to, when it might be worth money!

Are they going to try to sell Thames Water again? Privatise a British Leyland? Sell off the council houses that they sold off 40 years ago all over again?

They could promise to replicate Thatcher’s tax rates at her first budget and we’d all be aghast at the tax hikes!

Our country. She lives as an immigrant in Dubai.

No, you go and ask that of the 49% of your nation (your figure) who are British and wish to remain so. Andy Burnham already said you can have your independence if you want it so what are you waiting for?

Even if you were right (and you have no evidence to show that you are) you are still dismissing 4 in every 10 Scots and that is no way to treat your fellow Scots.

This is exactly right. Brexit highlighted deep-seated problems in the UK which had been bubbling under the surface. Any attempt to return to the EU would involve addressing those issues as a prerequisite. I believe that is what the new Prime Minister is setting out to do. Time will tell.

Thanks for that. I’ll keep them under cover over winter and see what happens, rather than throwing them out.

Probably thinking about marriage equality.

I adore thyme. I have bought countless pots of it over the years. Planted in soil, left in lots, watered, left unwatered, good soil, bad soil… I simply can’t keep it alive, yet I have rosemary bushes four feet tall! I’ll take a tray of your thyme, though, and try again!

That may well be tru3 - but along the way the UK has to align itself with EU standards and, presumably, either form a customs union with it or join the EU CU, adopt FofM and participate in the Single market, all of which would be beneficial for the EU as well as the UK. So it is worth while trying

And what does the half of Scotland that wants no truck with independence say when you tell them this divisive claptrap?

Well then do him for his crimes rather than arrest him for being mentally incapable.

Thank you for sharing that. You can, indeed, tell that it is her.

Can we do the same for the rest of their air bases in the UK? Please?

Andrew Brook @andrewbrook.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
How would it go down with the roughly half of the population who wish to remain part of a United Kingdom? And if you don’t care about that then you will never see an independent Scotland.

The PM who explicitly said Scotland could have a vote if it wanted one? Grow up!

The Tory Bayeux Tapestry is very funny and a great skewering of most of the main characters, apart from Angela Rayner who looks absolutely iconic in every image

So? The BBC needs to understand AI and have an approach towards it. It doesn’t mean that she was sucking up to the Americans on this issue.
