Many years ago I had the honour of sitting next to Sir Ranulph Fiennes (and opposite his then-wife Ginny) at a dinner at The Royal Geographical Society. The news that he has 'gone missing' in a care home is awful. Please consider donating to help find him. www.gofundme.com/f/helpingran...

@ec.europa.eu This is OUTRAGEOUS, and probably illegal under the Brexit withdrawal agreement. Isn't it about time you took Sweden to task over this, and other cases? www.theguardian.com/world/2026/s...

@theguardian.com A misleading article. The reason Mercator maps have survived so long can be summed up in one word ... 'navigation'. Mercator maps preserve angles and shapes, essential for navigation. The new maps preserve only areas; everything else is distorted. www.theguardian.com/news/2026/se...

As a one-time Governor of the RNLI and a vehement supporter of its ethos and aims of saving lives at sea, I have one question: can anyone identify this man?

Oh really? ColRegs 5 mandates that a proper lookout be kept at all times by all available means. This includes monitoring VHF Ch.16 from other vessels. So, in breach of the regulations, a proper lookout was not being kept. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Every creature leaves a mark on the Earth. And humans? We leave behind plastic bottles, packaging, containers, and trash. The saddest part is that we are the only species that understands the damage—yet we keep doing it. Our footprint should be one of responsibility, not pollution.

My thoughts on this report: 1) 5 blasts on the horn does not mean 'have you seen us'. It means 'your intentions are not clear'. 2) 2 degrees to port is not the substantial and obvious course change that would be required to make one's intentions clear. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...

I don't normally comment on political matters but, as a retired 40-year oil hand including in the North Sea, I have to say that the level of geological and engineering ignorance demonstrated in this post is breathtaking.

@penaltyloop.bsky.social I kept watching on Eurovision Sport after the main medal presentations. Great to see Lukas Hofer presented with an upgraded Olympic Silver Medal for the 2011 Olympic mass start, 15 years after the event! Maybe you could do a snippet on this?

Strolling through the organised chaos of the Biograd Boat Show, one of the biggest boat shows in Europe. Hard to believe that it started 27 years ago with just one boat on show.

Another long-lost photo; film-extra-ing in Port Stanley, Falkland Islands. The film was An Ungentlemanly Act - worth watching, if you can find it. (The wardrobe department seemed a bit sex-obsessed - zoom in on the notices.)

Just found this photo again after years of it being missing. Me and some of the crew at Cabo De Hornos, 1992.

Flying in to the UK for the first time in almost 9 years. It's something I did many many times during my working life, but now it feels....... weird. Hope I can still remember how to drive on the left.

Starting to get p'd off by the hundreds (thousands?) of photos of cats and dogs that are flooding Bluesky. A few.....OK. But there's such a thing as overload and it's gone past that point. Now blocking pet accounts.

The leaders are almost 3/4 of the way to St. Lucia. Charisma continues to slowly gain places through the field but is still towards the rear.
