But it also gave us one of the most beautiful finales in Star Trek history, and a reminder of why I love this show and this franchise, however much longer we get to enjoy each of them. 041

Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 03/10/2026"Frankenstein" may be my favorite Guillermo del Toro film since Pan's Labyrinth, and I don''t say that lightly. 030
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I don't know what's stranger: Paris Hilton promoting Paw Patrol on behalf of walmart or the fact that the algorithm thought I was the target audience for that. 030
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Which is a long walk to say that the one-two punch of listening to episodes about Adolf Eichmann and Jimmy Savile bruised my soul. 011
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I like Behind the Bastards, but sometimes listening to the show feels like drinking poison for fun. It's not just that evil people exist; it's that so many institutions that enable, excuse, and even encourage them, to where they never face accountability. It's a hard thing to confront over and over. 120
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I'm a glutton for punishment, so I rewatched Cars 2, and it hit me that while the movie is obviously paying homage to the James Bond series, it's also drafting off Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. And hoo boy, replacing John Candy with Larry the Cable Guy goes exactly as well as you'd think. 020

Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Ventus' outfit actually works surprisingly well for a car's detailing. But otherwise these are profoundly cursed! 010
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I like Strange New Worlds' big genre swings. But part of my problem with the Oops All Crunchberries approach to them in s4 is simple -- when the show does pure classic Star Trek, it's so damn good at it! "Orders of Magnitude" was an absolutely tremendous episode and I'd love to see more in that vein 010

Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 09/09/2026I'm a bit worn out by Star Trek: Strange New World's constant genre-shifting. But it does show what a stellar actor Anson Mount is. He's able to modulate his performance to the different tones and settings effortlessly. That's not an easy thing to do and it helps anchor all of the show's genre-flips 010

Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 08/09/2026There's a power outage delaying the SMU-Florida State game. And woe be to the ESPN cameraman, who's clearly desperate to capture footage of anything even remotely interesting and finds himself reduced to doing a slow pan across a row of stadium lights that...aren't on. Riveting, hilarious television 020
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Me [Flummoxed, Trying to Think of Something]: Um...uh...but then the refs found another, super secret clock that no one else could see. And it said there was one mysterious extra second left. So the other team used it to score a touchdown and win the game. My 5yo Niece: Yaaaay! 010
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 06/09/2026Me: And then the brave Western Michigan players batted away the final pass just as time expired, and the underdogs won the big game! The End. My 5yo Niece: But I wanted the other team to win. Tell the story again! 110
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Look, it's an uphill battle, but I just attended a professional wrestling show in a Texas county that Trump won by 11 points, and one of loudest chants of the night was "Fuck ICE!" So amazing things are possible! 010

Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 30/08/2026The Buy In is a treat because the commentary among Excalibur, Tazz, and Tony Schiavone is so loose and fun. It's the closest thing we've gotten to their casual commercial break banter in ages. #AEWAllIn 010

Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 30/08/2026We rewatched Pixar's Cars, and the movie has its ups and downs, but it reminded me how silly the gripes about the plausibility of a car-based world were. The setting is clearly just a fun excuse for creative visuals in an all ages film. It's like harping on the Gross Domestic Product of Neverland. 010
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 29/08/2026For all the complaints about Strange New Worlds' "a new genre every week" approach, this week's episode was pure, meat and potatoes Star Trek, replete with guts and guile, ample problem-solving, and a ticking clock. And it was excellent! Easily the best of the season! So maybe they're onto something 040
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 28/08/2026Tim Curry was magic. That devilish grin. That oily baritone. That go-for-broke energy. Not every project he did was brilliant, but he was always brilliant in every project. A one-of-a-kind performer who could charm or scare you as a kid and absolutely wow you as an adult. What a legacy he left us! 030

Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 25/08/2026But Vicki just meets a wet rag of boy and decides he's worth giving up penicillin for after knowing him for all of two days? All for a contrived Shakespeare homage? Meh. 010
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 25/08/2026I'm watching Doctor Who for the first time, and Vicki's goodbye is easily the worst companion exit so far. Susan's romance was sudden, but she'd expressed a desire to be independent and settled long before. Ian and Barbara's exit was abrupt, but it made sense that they'd want to go home eventually. 120

Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 22/08/2026It's a little out there, but it has a lot of interesting elements to it! The story arc is called "The Romans". It's in season 2, and the first episode of the arc is entitled "The Slave Traders". 010
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 21/08/2026You can also cap it off with the 1960s Doctor Who story arc where The Doctor rubs elbows with Nero. 120
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 21/08/2026While watching it, I wondered how the show could survive without Livia and Sian Phillips' brilliant performance, but then John Hurt showed up just in time! 010
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 21/08/2026It's one of the fun things about these early episodes. Sometimes the dialogue is loose and the patter is so freewheeling! You so rarely see that on television anymore. Makes the characters seem more like real people somehow. 000
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 20/08/2026It drove me nuts, because the rhythm of the original theme and the new beat they put under it didn't align for some godforsaken reason! 010
Andrew Bloom @andrewbloom.bsky.social · 19/08/2026Great article. It's flown under the radar comparatively, but the retirement of the play app is a real bummer. The Bounty Hunter game and the World Showcase scavenger hunt really brought new life to those areas, and I hope there's ultimately some replacement for them. 230
